The kind that fucks up your computer so that your monitor doesn't work?

I don't even know if that's the problem but there is definitely something going on. I was on my Cyberpower trying to get it up and running, a few programmes needed to connect to the internet to update, which they did, but in turn a whole load of spyware/ad-ware/mal-ware/trojans were installed on my computer.

I ran Ad-Aware and Kaspersky Anti-Virus which found them all and deleted them (at my request) but when I restarted the computer, although the monitor was on, nothing showed up. I disconnected it, unplugged it, disconnected the cable in the computer and reconnected it, then started the computer back up and still nothing.

I bring the monitor downstairs and it works fine, just not on the Cyberpower.

I tried looking for anything online about what might be the problem but couldn't find shit. shrug

So far this computer has caused me nothing but grief...................People like me shouldn't own computers roll cry

That computer seems to be giving you alot of problems. I havnt ever heard of the monitor virus but I will look around and see if I can find anything. Have you tried booting in Safe Mode? Damn...I cant beleive I forgot what it is... I think it might be F8 while starting up... try that and see if you get monitor support. The only other thing im thinking is if somehow a virus disabled the graphics driver or something...

Can you take your downstares monitor up to your computer with the problem? Just do that and see what happens.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. Obviously it's on the computer end since I'm using the monitor on another computer now.

I can't get ANYTHING to come up on the screen at all, so I can't try to re-install Windows or boot up in Safe-Mode or anything like that, since I can't see shit. I don't how I am supposed to fix it if I can't see what I'm doing.

reboot and just hold down f8, or keep pressing it. But yeah... if you arent seeing it POST or anything, I dont think you would see any options to boot in safe mode... hmmm..

Edit, unfortunatly dude, I think its your motherboard. The connection from the monitor to the motherboard or some chip on the motherboard has to be the culprit here. Do you have an extra video card you can try? Do any of your friends have a cheap PCI video card you can use jus to test it?

Also do you get any beeps when you start it up?

If it is going to be your monitor connector, if you have a good computer repair store around your area, they might be able to sell you a cheap old PCI video card for like 5 bucks.

It's not a monitor virus, it's probably either A) the computer has nothing to show you because of other viruses. B) the computer won't load up all the way because of other viruses. C) video card maybe?

I'd PM Jake about it, or see if theres a warranty/number to call about the CPU.

Cash4Cookies; I have a video card in my other PC that I could try, I have no friends so I can't borrow one from anyone, I get no beeps when I start it up.....It starts up fine. We have no computer repair stores anywhere that I am aware of around here (

Shamash; I didn't specifically mean the monitor had a virus, but if the computer had nothing to show me because of the virus, would that mean it would literally show me nothing, or would it maybe even just give me the boot screen?

I'll try taking my other video card out and putting it in the Cyberpower and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks guys.

tsj- If it's not the video card and you get no beeps at all, it may be a faulty cooler. When you turn the computer on, do you hear the fan run regularly, then slow down and quiet down?

Im gonna put all my chips on, when he plugs in the other video card it is going to work, that is if the computer is running normally now, just with no video. One more thing to ask, if the monitor is not getting a signal at all, it should say "No Signal" or the light will be orange or red instead of yellow. Keep us posted TSJ

Since I can't see anything I can only speculate but it sounds as if though the computer starts up fine. The fans start up and stay the same speed.

The monitor is a 17" CRT so it doesn't say "No Signal" I am however going to use my LCD monitor this time so I'll see what it says this time.

I'll let you know.

Yeah I tried that and it doesn't fit. It started bending the metal backing of the case shock

I did call Technical Support and the guy was a cock. I had to endure 15 minutes of some shite, soft-rock, CA radio station, then speak to some kid who told me to take the side panel off and remove the big thick wire coming from the power supply. Then he told me to get a metal paper clip (which involved me going down 2 fllors and then back up) and when I told him I had it, he said "What took you so long?! Where were you?!"

Then he told me to take the big thick wire out of the motherboard and stick one end of the paperclip into where the green wire was, and the other end into where a black wire was but the fucker wouldn't stick in and he started getting pissed and asking why I was taking so long.

So I had the paper clip stuck in the wire that is supposed to go into the motherboard and he tells me to turn the power which I do and I still get nothing. "Oh well you have a bad motherboard then, here is an RMA number, send it back and we'll replace it for you" and he didn't even say goodbye, just hung up. roll

I'm just glad I didn't pay for the computer.

lol, so you found out that an AGP video card doesn't fit in a PCI-E slot eh? ;)

07-11-2005 16:14:40

hmm my friends computer did this and all it was was that the video card came a tiny bit loose from the motherboard. on an lcd it didnt even say no signal, i guess it was close enough to bypass that. try taking it out and shoving it back in hard? it fixed my friends...haha
