What's your favorite Prog-Metal band?

Which band is my favorite, you ask?
Well, I'd have to go with Dream Theater. Their top three albums(IMHO), including Train of Thought, Images and Words, and Scenes From a Memory, really impress me. I was originally turned on to them by a friend who sent me "Endless Sacrifice" over AIM along with "The Dance of Eternity." Being that I'm a sucker for instrumentals, mesmerizing guitar riffs, and melodies, I couldn't resist picking up the full albums from FYE. I'm starting to believe that Maynard could make a good replacement for LaBrie in the vocals department... I won't go into any more history with that, so don't fret. )
Buuut, I'd put Opeth in second place for being the masters of musical originality (again, IMHO) and The Mars Volta in third for the most intricate and unique lyrics I've ever heard.

Yeah, I almost put Tool as well. Dream Theater would be the absolute best if Maynard covered the vocals instead of LaBrie, IMHO.

Me too. I know a few people who can just walk into Borders, head to the Metal section, pick up Metallica's St. Anger or something just as god-awful and buy it without knowing anything about how it sounds or even the band.

Tool is great, I've heard about Mars Volta (but not exactly listened to them) and didn't know about the others, I will try them as well.
I've been into post rock lately (Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, etc)

There is not post St. Anger yet, that's their latest album. P Pre-St. Anger is alright, IMO, I just can't stand Garbage Inc., ReLoad, and a couple others.

What are those two good songs? Please say One and something from Ride the Lightning.

I was a bit wary of calling TMV progressive metal since they're more towards progressive rock than anything else.
Tool all the way out of that list.

I wish i could vote twice, so close between Tool and Dream theater, i guess ill go with dream theater. Volta also kicks ass but i dont think theyre really metal.

One is a good song. I still listen to that occasionally.
I like Fuel too.
