This thread is way to vague.
that site is nearly imposible
to reach 1 million dollars it will take anywhere from 30000 to 50000 offers to be done -/
ilanbg
27-10-2005 21:19:18
They already started with 20,000. That's quite a lot to put into a freesite.
But hell...

it's themilliondollarfreebie.com

and i'm guessing that with such a big concept, they will get a big amount of media and curious people completing offers, and it will go faster than you think.
they've also obviously figured how much they can giev per offer to still makem oney

They just threw an ipod away to some random guy, so they've got something.

site is really ugly. its a good idea I guess, I dunno how many people are going to sign up for something without getting anything in return.

Yeah, is almost impossible (not 100% becuase it CAN be done) but I don't think so. 1 million is TOO much, each month raffle sounds better (if they get 100 for that month then prize is $100) but thats better than waiting for 1 million.

Let's wait and see if the guy gets the iPod first...then we can start talking about bigger things.

It's definately legit, I'm talking to the site owner (have known him for several months) now. Read the FAQ and wait until the Sponsors page is up, then you'll understand )
hehehhehe
27-10-2005 21:39:33
Why do these offers for possibly no reward, when you can get a sure chunk of cash doing other sites? It would help its legitimacy if they had an escrow account where the prize money would accumulate and outside parties can verify. I could put up a website and say I have $20k sitting there (even give out a few ipods) but that still doesn't prove anyhing as to the owner's intentions.
I'll probably sign up for the free entries though, hee hee.

Good luck to them, but it's got quite a few legality issues that could subject them to considerable trouble.
Contests and lotteries (which this would fall into because of the raffle entries) are a very tricky topic and the laws vary from location to location (state to state). For their own protection, they need to obtain a competent contest/sweeps attorney quickly and update the Terms of the offer. Something like this, especially if it catches on, is serious stuff. If not, they can get in deep trouble if they are caught by regulators.

Technically, since you're not giving them money, it's not really a raffle..
It's really odd / It's obviously a raffle, but I think theres technicalities around it.
ajrock2000
27-10-2005 21:43:40
wow, I though this site was going to be the opposite. Like where everyone wins in some way, not 1 person every 1 million dollars. Good luck, but no freaking thanks.

You're still "earning/purchasing" entries by doing offers. Not only that but legally you have to also offer a "No Purchase necessary" option.
We've looked into it for an upcoming contest (items in the $400 range) and just to offer the contest (LEGALLY) to residents of every state, it would cost more then $10,000 (to be licensed and bonded). We are still going to run it but certain states have to be excluded and specific language included. If they weren't excluded and we got caught, it would cost in excess of $100,000. Definitely not worth it.
It's one thing for a rinky dink message board contest, but when you start to venture into bigger things (like this) you need to have yourself covered.

Yeah I don't see the incentive for people to do this.
I mean why would someone spend a shitload of money on offers just for someone else to walk away with $1,000,000?. We could spend money on offers on FusionCash.net and actually get something from it.
I can't see them getting to $1,000,000 anytime soon if it doesn't offer people any incentive to sign up.

yea, as far as i can see this has major flaws all over it.. i myself won't be even signing up in the near future..
the site reminds me of those sites where you buy the program and 'get rich quick'..

A picture at the top of a page that has a number changing on it, doesn't prove anything.
We have no proof that the pot is growing and that anyone will receive anything.

Sponsors paid them 198.2 already?
Let's say a while from now, there's going to be $500k - $1M sitting there (unlikely but just hypothetically speaking), what's the owner gonna do? Take off with it like many have done already with much much less, give it to yourself through family/friend, or really give it away to a stranger. There's nothing in the TOS that describes any measures against this sort of thing (the usual sweepstakes stuff preventing friends/family from joining, etc.).

Rofl that has to be the gayest free site ive ever seen..... As soon as i found out soem of the people that were involved a while ago i knew this site was up to no good, but to say complete offers that people will give you 25$+ for or other freesites would give you gifts for and maybe win a MILLION dollars!!!" roll they could (and probably) will "decide to shut down" after they get close to 1 million dollars................
"Thank you faithful members for doing offers and getting nothing in return thus far... unfortunately we've only gotten $999,999.99 and we have decided to shut down... PWNED P "

I also know the owner, and just because he can write a decent script (admin here would argue on that point), how can you vouch for him? Admins and mods here should learn from their mistakes and not vouch for anybody, because 90% of the time it has come back to bite you in the ass.

Yup, or theoretically more if it was to hit 1 million again. There is zero incentive with this site, mine as well be a pyramid scheme.

I posted this in the other thread but it bares repeating There were actually some damn good ideas for sites that were guesses and then this debacle comes out. What a complete joke.
me and mr_black go way back...
really good guy
but think about it.. they made 200 in the first day.. ( rush hour day)
if they keep up this pace,
it will take 4,900 days
... 13 and a half years

even if they get the 1mill......theyll have 20K or so revoked from fraud. In otherwords, 1mill will most likely never be reached. There will always be fraud, and all money added will have some revoked.

ajrock2000
28-10-2005 13:34:01
Yeah, $206 just from noobs signing up because of the big promotion. They will definitely not keep up that pace which means they will never end up giving out the million. Good luck on advertising that ugly POS of a site to any people outside of the freebie world.

some guy from another message board found this... pretty funny
[quote055903b929]I was reading the FAQ and came across this
[b055903b929]C’mon, there’s gotta be a catch somewhere[/b055903b929]…
Not that we know of. It is only admissible to have one account per household and the offers you complete must be unique to this site. When you participate, make sure you read the contest terms and conditions to avoid mistakes and possible disqualification.
What kind of answer is "Not that we know of."???
