From engadget

[quotedf841be35a]AppleInsider is reporting that Apple has instructed its authorized service providers to replace any 5G iPods that exhibit “any type of hardware failure [including] those that would normally be classified as abuse,” in a message to its channel partners. This limited-time policy is being seen as a preemptive customer relations booster, and not (yet) as a sign that the new ‘Pods with video have some unannounced inherent defect. The announcement comes at a time when Apple is under fire for the scratchability of the nano, having recently been hit with a class action lawsuit. [/quotedf841be35a]

FUCK... I just spent 7 hours getting my music set up.

If this thing fails on me, I'll shoot myself in the hands and claw my face off.

I understand how you can label and add cover art, but once it is set up on itunes, it is good to go. At the most it takes an hour to transfer the songs (and that would be a full ipod.)

The first 5g 30gb iPod I got went bad in less than 7 days. I had kept the original piece of plastic on the face and ironically the second I removed it the middle/select button got stuck pressed down. The store gave me a brand new one sealed in the box with no questions asked. They even offered me the opposite color if I wanted.

I hope that they can prove that the nano has a coating that scratches easier and deeper than the color ipods in court. I have both a nano and a 30 gb color. I might be able to prove it statistically (i.e. statistical test)

i finally saw one in person yesterday. some guy was sitting in the main hall waiting for his next class watching a movie of some sort. he had the black one.

They did.

They swapped the acrylic cover for a polycarbonate one. The difference between the two is that the polycarbonate is about 25 times stronger -- but they're not strong in the same ones.

With acrylic, if you drop it, there's a very high propensity for it to crack. Yet, on the flip wide, the polycarbonate absorbs more of the impact and won't crack, thus preserving the hardware inside.

The problem, though, is that the polycarbonate is much, much, easier to get 'scratches'.

i don't know how an arguement will go in court, but scientifically, there is a problem with the sratchability of the new coating that can be proved statistically. its proven, but anything can happen in court.

This will never go to court. Apple will settle.

has the video ipod not been widely seen yet? when i exchanged my 20 gig for the 30 gig, the apple store had none on display but i asked if i could see one b4 i made the trade, and he brought one out for me...i thought that it was odd to not have a display of their newest product, of which they had plenty in stock.

havent seen anyone in person with it yet, but then again ive only seen like 5 ppl with the nano in person haha.

Well, I was transferring 3,000 songs from an external HD to the iPod, so it was probably slower than if it was from the HD on my computer.
But more importantly, I had to use USB, which is slow as hell. I hate USB.

Mine is far quieter than the 3G iPod.

USB is far from slow, USB 1.1 can hit 12mbit/s which is probaly what you where using. That is 1.5mB/s.

USB 2.0 can hit 480mbit/s, which is fast. That is 60mB/s. That is rougly 12 songs per second.

Mine is whisper silent, but your clicking sounds like what my 3G iPod does now.

It has HD problems. I'd suggest taking it to Apple.
