completely unrelated... but then again, this board is "off-topic"
I am looking to create/help create/manage a website that is a central database of church events going on in/around the local church(s). I would like to have a system where church and users can post events going on in the area, and link them to a certain church, website or venue. Also users on any given day can see whats going on that weekend, or day in calendar format. Events will need to be indexed by category to create some order.
The system will also need to have a auto-email script where members can recieve HTML enabled emails on new events or weekly digests based on their event criteria. Also some kind of phpBB system would be a great addition.
If possible, certain priviledges would be given to people who register on the site, ie Servants, Priests, etc. The Servants/Priests would be able to upload (onto the actual webhost's server) pictures, word documents, etc etc (kind of like the online gallery here but preferrably the user uploads files to the server itself, im not sure if thats how the setup is here)
We would also like a moderation system so administrators can approve, dissaprove submissions or edit them.
I know there are a lot of experienced programmers and web developers here knowledgable in PHP. I'm not very familiar with PHP and therefore cannot really do it myself, and I dont really expect anyone here to, but I was wondering, is there some sort of free generic script (like phpNuke, or postNuke or whatever its called) that I can utilize and do some kind of code modifications to get it to work per my needs?
If anyone can provide any sort of script, or where to start, what books to buy anything at all, that would be [i4192f3afa2]greatly[/i4192f3afa2] appreciated, thak you so much!

You can probably find such a script on Freshmeat.net or just using Google. As for tutorials/books, if you have any previous programming experience, PHP is extremely easy and I think the PHP manual on the official site will suffice. Use MySQL as your database, it's integrated well in PHP.
