Say I have a Mpeg-3 which is encoded with Divx?

How can I turn it into a regular mpeg-4 (for itunes/ipod video)..

Are there any free programs to change em over?

Just googled and read in on it, and the trial is of Divx Create, with many locked features. It also only advertises being able to convert TO divX. I went into the features section and it listed a few things it converts with but didn't see mpeg-4 anywhere or the fact that itll go from DivX to something else.

Just found on the iLounge that you can use PSP Video 9, apparently. Hopefully this works, I'll say here if it does. This will be nice if it does, for everyone with an ipod video P

PSP Video 9 seems to be good, yet I hope you have a bunch of time.

It can only decode 1 thing at a time and isn't the fastest. Plus, you have to pick what bitrate/etc to decode everything at. Not an easy decision until you have the iPod and can see what looks good at what (

those sites are always made to make money somehow, whether they outright charge you or put major adware on your comp (

vcdhelp.com AKA videohelp.com is the #1 place to goto for any encoding questions. Doom9.org is also nice. Here is the reply I made in the other thread about this

[quote447902b0df="shamash"]I'm not talking about mp3 or mp4.

Just to let you know mp4 is not strictly video, it's the audio the iTunes Music Store uses.

Mpeg-3 is video and Mpeg-4 is video, they're two different types of file though? And iTunes will only take Mpeg-4.[/quote447902b0df]

I have never seen a mpeg-3 video, and wikipedia agrees with me that they are not around.

[code1447902b0df]MPEG-3 is the designation for a group of audio and video coding standards agreed upon by MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group). MPEG-3 was designed to handle HDTV signals in the range of 20 to 40 Mbit/s.

It was soon discovered that similar results could be obtained through slight modifications to the MPEG-2 standard. Shortly thereafter, work on MPEG-3 was discontinued.

MPEG-3 should not be confused with MPEG-1 Part 3 Layer 3 (or MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3), commonly referred to as MP3.[/code1447902b0df]

So unless you use a HDTV signal other then TS or Xvid like the rest of the community...

there is no adware or fees to use that site...its a user created forum based place to learn on how to do stuff with video...its AKA vcdhelp.com
just go to the "how to" part on the left and you should be able to find what you need

edit didnt read the post above

vcdhelp.com does not make any of there own tools just a community with awsome forums and tutorials like dug1200 said. I go there for all of my encoding troubles. Nice community.

That's meant for 1 movie.. doing that for every episode of 9 seaons of the XFiles and 3 seasons of Family Guy would take ages.

well i take it that you have not done much in terms of video encoding...its not like music where it only takes a couple mins to do a cd or whatnot...you only have to do half the process since you already have the divx file....good luck with your project

They should make a batch processor program. And with my overclocked A64 2339mhz monster it should take about 11 ratio to encode to this low resolution I am thinking, or maybe faster. Not sure if encoding to a lower resolutions makes it go any faster.

Well I want iTunes to do it, like I add a mp3 and right click and say convert to AAC, and if I select 50 songs it does them all.
