There are 30" HDTV's for $400!

http//www.outlet.philips.com/b2c_redesign/catalog/categorieInPath.do?page=first&key=0/4190799E9A6F008D00000000828BD472/41907ABB9A6F008D00000000828BD472&shop=OUTLET

Anyone know of other companies that sell their referbished TV's? I want to get a 30" and these seem pretty good. If a TV just has 1080i does it look like crap when you watch a 720p program? Is it down converted?

720p looks better then 1080i. And it will look fine if you play a 720p program on a max of 1080i. All it is is vertical resolution with Progressive or Interlaced behind it.

I want to get the Dell 2405 for 800$, that thing is a bad ass. It is a 24" computer LCD monitor, and can be used as a TV. Well needless to say it is the best LCD under 1000$.

I hear mixed reviews about these Philips refurbs. They arrive broken at times because the shipper sucks and they seem to have minor picture problems. You have to understand that there's a reason why they have so many refurbs. I was tempted to get one of these but I decided I'm going to pay the extra grand and get a 32" LCD.

We'll all have to compare our new TVs in the brag bag section.

I agree with what you've posted. It seems that whenever someone discovers Phillips' refurb site and posts it on a forum, that there are a ton of purchases and the only ones you hear about are the duds.

However, from what I've read, Phillips will authorize you to have your set repaired by a Phillips repair shop if you contact them soon after the delivery with legitimate complaints.

If I hadn't bought a 27" Panasonic SDTV about 26 months ago at full price, and then got the WEGA from freeflatscreens.com, I would have bought one of these refurbs...

Yeah, the problem online is that there are more people that post about problems rather than brag about how good their purchase was. There surely are plenty of people happy with their purchase. I've almost clicked the "submit order" several times with these refurbs but I just didn't want to deal with a broken TV or picture problems. Philips is also terrible for customer service so I didn't want to deal with them either. In any case, you'll have 90 days to straighten out any duds so it's still not a bad buy.

I'm about to finish Freepay's flatscreens site, but I don't even want to bother with it unless it's HD. Hopefully I'll be able to sell one of the LCD monitors they offer and put it towards an LCD.

Feel about what? HDTVs? LCD/DLP Projectors. Thats the way to go. Considering buying one when the after-christmas prices drive the price down.
