It's funny, I have a tiny flash-based MP3 player (512 MB), and of the 50 songs I've got on it right now, you guys all seem to dig the same ones. Arcade Fire, etc...

I hate that term. Selling out for a band that does not declare themself "indy forever" just means that the band has finally put out a hit album. Which is one of the huge points of being in a band. I don't know a lot about Deathcabs history... but they obviously have RIAA ties since they have been a featured band on the friggin OC for the last couple years. So I'd say they'll sell lots of albums and make money but hopefully keep doing projects like Postal Service. Which is good for the band.

Now if you're talking about becoming a tool... even Blink 182 still worked on side projects while headlining with the lamest of bands.

I also rofl when people use sell out. More like win, if I was in a band I would in a instant choose a path that makes more money then another, its all about the benjermans baby.

Then you as a customer should demand higher quality music. Bands will always go the path of more money, make the path of more money the path of quality, not shit.
I dont see that happening anytime soon so if you want good music go listen to 70s and 80s music, well there is some good 90s too.

It doesnt really matter though, because I am the biggest hypocrite when I talk about the music industry and shit. I have always downloaded all my music, and will continue too. The only album I have ever got was not even bought by me, but my parents as a 11 year old bday present and that was the Godzilla soundtrack. Well they got me some shitty Usher single too, but I took it back and got something else not a cassatte. And I still listen to that same soundtrack in mp3 forum on my computer. I always think about the semilegality of that one mp3 album in my mp3 folder.

I have some good arguments against the RIAA, but most lead to consumers buying the products in the long run. Which I will never do, so it is just hypocritical, and I dont care. Hell even if I wasnt poor as shit I dont think I would pay for music, espically in the form it is in now. It is getting better with downloadable legal mp3s, but I will still never buy one. Maybe a monthly fee of 10$ for a super easy way to get them or something...

I understand that and that is exactly what I do. The point I was making is that artists [i86a84a29c2]shouldn't[/i86a84a29c2] care only about making money. And no, all bands do not only care about money. It's just that the only bands people actually HEAR are the ones that sold their souls to some huge corporation so their "music" can be sold in every Target/ Wal-Mart/ McDonald's in the world.

I work in a Kroger right now, and we play a lot of Billy Joel and some Beatles. A lot of Phil Collins etc... All 3 of thoose bands are really really good bands, just because you are mainstream does not make you bad, at least it did not use to be that way. Going mainstream is what people call selling out.

You know what some downright horable music is, is that christian band music. 99.99% is so bad I just want to shoot myself so I can show Jesus the shittiness of the music. I have not heard one good christian band. I have even heard good country music, and I thought that was unheard of.

I beg to differ.

I have a difficult time finding any good in listening to much of the secular/mainstream garbage. Music without meaning or purpose.

Look up these bands...

How about this idea - What if bands "sell out" whatever that may mean, because they want the financial security to make it "all about the music." I'd surmise that's one of the main reasons (though not the only reason) that the album a band releases after their breakout album isn't as well received...(because their breakout album made them the money which allows them to give the 'ol FU to the people telling them how to make popular music and instead they make the music they want to make).
