The Experiment Experience

Friday was alright, kinda hot my friends hadnt showed up yet so I just checked out Lucinda, Spoon, Keane and then we all saw Black Crowes.

Saturday was much hotter, and dustier, the hurricane drew in a little wind that kicked up all the dust in the park and got annoying very quick. I'm used to the 105 heat all day long, but with the dust it was really hard this year.

Bands of note.
Fiery Furnaces - if you havent listend to blueberry boat and you like good experimental challenging indie rock, check out this awesome concept album. They put on a great show playing a lot of new material from their forthcoming album.

Bloc Party - Crazy energy, I had listened to thier cd all summer to prepare for seeing them at ACL, but I wasnt prepared. For a band thats only been together for 2 years they know what the hell they are doing. I'd take them over franz any day. Haven't heard them check out the whole album, start with Helicopter

Sunday - If there was dust in the air saturday then sunday was was the Dust Bowl, and it was hardcore hot (105 offical temp who knows what the heat index was). I drank all 3 of my waters by the first band. But this was the day to end all days, the day with too many good bands too see.

It started for me with the Doves or Rilo Kelly. I wanted to see all of the Doves but we arrived a little late, so I checked them out heard them play my two favorites from thier new cd then took off to see Rilo for a little bit and set up for the kaiser chiefs.

Rilo Kelly was pretty good, but I am not a huge fan of thier new album. The Kaiser Chiefs were great, they played a lot from the new album and Everyday I love you just a little bit less and I predict a riot were awesome.

I left them early too, to set up for the Arcade Fire. There were in the top 2 bands I had to see so I made sure to get a good spot for them. I clawed my way up into the crowd and had a pretty good spot. They came out...all nine of them, and personally soundchecked each instrument themselves

as in each one soundchecked each instrument for themselves, for 40 min b4 theier set started.

The cool thing was they all played every instrument, every song they'd switch it up and this guy would go play drums and the girl would come play the guitar. They had 2 violinists, I french horn. Between the other 6 they had a chello, bass, 3 guitars, drums, keyboards, and tons of random percussion(they played motercycle helmets at one point). That they would interchange for each song. Played Neighborhoods 1,2,4 hatti, rebellion, wake up from funeral. I know the songs but not the names of the old ones they played, but it was like 4, and one new one. Great show

Then it was the decemberists before wilco.

Wilco was amazing as always, this was my third time to see them in one year, so their setlist didnt really have much new for me. It's always great to see them though. They played an amazing 20 min version of spiders, and a really badass new song called Walken. If you wanna hear what wilco sounds like live pm me ill send you an amazing concert I have of thiers from this past april. What Nels does on that guitar never ceases to amaze me, i can't wait for them to get him in the studio.

Then it was the Black Keys they kicked my ass. You have to listen to the black keys, do you like the white stripes? then why arent you listening to the black keys, the guy from the black keys guitar kicked jack whites guitars ass.

listen to the black keys

Coldplay was cool too, great screen and stage lights and whatever we just stayed at the back and watched too tired to fight our way up to the front.

its always good every year, and every year it gets a little better

I wish I was there. How much were your tickets. Does it cost as much as South by Southwest?

I got 3 day passes for 35 each. They run an earlybird special every year and if you are on the email list they send you an email like in march saying you can buy em for that much on like a saturday

that saturday they open up 2000 of them for $35 and send you an email at some random time in the morning so you have to be all checkin that shit cause they sell out like 30 min after you get the email.

They were 105 otherwise. Still worth it though, cause most concerts cost 20-30 bucks so If you like more than 3 bands its worth the 105.

Last couple years they were like 70 for all three days.

get on the mailing list next year get em while they're cheap, it's before they annouce the lineup but its always good and I always have a good time.
