I'm no mathmatician, but an 8% rise in one day is pretty frigging good.
Kudos on the pick Archon.

when did you buy it, how much did you buy it for, and how many shares did you get?

well the thing is I bought it when it was already on the rise. Like 20 minutes ago, so I can't talk about kudos yet. I bought 82 shares, as that's what I had laying around in my scottrade account ($1500) at $18.25 a share (ask price is higher than bid price).

Hmmm... I'll look into that. My chinese stocks are doing pretty good the last couple of days. They weren't affected by the high oil prices and hurricane threats like the other stocks and were green when the entire market was down. Three of the ones I bought went up 17.98%, 20.39%, and 19.25% so far. One went down 10% though but looks like it's heading back up.

Yeah, thats a good idea if you don't know what to buy.
Current ly I'm putting most of my money mainly in Chinese internet and wireless related companies. (No, not that overpriced piece of garabage bidu lol ) To me there's only room for those markets to grow. The standard of living is graudually increasing in china. The number of internet and cell phone users are gonna increase.

Here's the ones I own. TOMO, KONG, LTON, and SINA. Their all green today and up about 4%, 8%, 2% and 1.8% respectively so far. Be careful of profit taking on monday and some of the prices may dip on monday. It's always best to do your own research before investing in a company.

Thats probably a little low and you have to invest it all in one company since commission would kill most of your profit.

One of my school projects was to buy $100,000 worth of stock (fake money of course, just pretending), write it down and see how much money we could make in a month. I ended up buying 1000 shares of Apple, which if I sold right now would give me a return of about $8000 minus commision. I happened to buy right before the Nano and Rokr came out. 8)
Oh, and BTW, whoever "wins" (earns the most money), gets 10 real dollars. Not bad for a school project.
Yeah in 5th grade we had a stock thing like that i came in 2nd the person that came in 1st cheated b/c they were not there one day and the teacher said just make it up but she looked up the stocks and beat me...what a fag.
I am thinking about starting trading.

D I had a pretty good yield today with the stock market. The value of my portfolio went up from around $6500 to $6900. Everything was green on an average market day except for 1 stock that went down a penny. And one of my chinese stock, KONG, which was up 9.7% during market hours went up almost another 1% during aftermarket hours. Too bad I had to sell some of my stocks to pay for tution and textbooks or else I would of had more money to invest. cry

I don't really like IPOs, especially companies that I've never heard of. My primary holding is Apple Computer (AAPL) and I also own some shares of Chinese gaming/internet company Netease.com (NTES). My portfolio is currently up about 20% in the past year.

I was talking with my friend last september that I wanted to buy stock in google. I would've if I had the extra cash. I knew back then that it would explode and google would eventually own the world. It's gone up 3x since then.

D Yep. It's up from the $15 range to the $19 in the last 5 days. It's up 30% since I bought it last month. I sense it might go down a little soon though because of profit taking.

It's really hard to just randomly pick stocks and research them. A lot of people take advice from others if you want to do all the research yourself then the best advice I heard for beginners is to "stick with what you know."
Meaning as investing in companies and sectors you are familar with. Such as if you believe microsoft is gonna make an absolutely killing with the xbox360 then buy their stock before it comes out or if you believe walmart is gonna have very good 4th quarter sales then buy their stock early.
It's the same for long term outlook. If you think some of the now bankrupt airlines, delta and northwest are gonna recover then buy their stocks cheap now and sell them later on when the prices go back up. (I really don't recommend this though since although I heard a lot of people saying they will recover, the thing is that most companies cancel their stock when they get out of bankruptcy and issue new one. Meaning all the old shares will be worth nothing.)
