Mac mini "freebies"....

I've just been interested in getting one of these little chaps. I may buy one sometime.
I just had a few questions about the "freebies" you get when you actually purchase a mini....
[b55b7711875]- You get a free 1st GEN iPod Mini...yes/no?
- You get a free HP printer...yes/no?
- Anything else, besides the apple stickers? lol[/b55b7711875]
Just wondering what all you get free, because I would most likely be selling the iPod mini, etc, to make a little of my cash back if I do decide to purchase a Mac mini in the future.

um... i got mine last week and i sold it on ebay ($511) because it is the bottom of the line mac available. it would be a shame to get your first impression of a mac by buying a mini because you wont be happy with it. most people in the mac community hate it. it is a piece of shit. dont buy one. in the box there is the mini, dvi > vga adapter, all the software, and the ac adapter. if you do buy one, you can get all kinds of crazy deals from the apple store like a free printer (after rebate), free ipod mini (after rebate), and i think there is an education discount on it as well. dont waste your time. A first time mac buyer usually gets an ibook, emac, or imac. try saving your money up for one of those instead of a mac mini. the same discounts apply to all computers.

yea, I realize it's Apple's "lower" model, but the $699 SuperDrive w/ 1G ram, 80Gig HD (plus my external HD's), a decent ATI video card, and built in WiFi/Bluetooth doesn't sound too bad to me. I don't know too much about macs yet, but that really doesn't sound too bad.
What exactly do you mean? Are you referring to the slightly slower processor compared to the beastly 2Ghz G5 processor? (which is pretty understandable considering price + size differences).

the 1.42 g4 is out of date, as is the 32mb video card. i should have got the 128mb instead of the 64mb video in my new powerbook (1.67) but i didnt. i even put in 1gb ram and still cannot play hd very well. but if you arent going to be playing hd then it doesnt matter. you should definitely get a mac though. the saying "it just works" on apples website is the truth. everything is installed that you need and everything that connects to it works fine. you won't regret it.

yea, my loaded up Windows would probably be the main gaming comp, I really wanted to get the Mac mini sometime in the future to just explore the "mac world", although I would like to have a good "first experience" with it.
hmmmm, thinking.....

Well i mean, if you just want a general idea of what the mac world is like then get one. Most people just think they are going to get some badass computer for $600 or whatever which is not the case. You will get what you pay for... a decent desktop. It is only meant for Aunt Lucy who just wants to check email and browse the web. I am sure there is an apple store in your area so you can check it out.

I'd go for it... it will run smoothly on 512MB... if you want to do a bit more with it, crank it up to 1GB... it is a basic machine and of course you won't be able to do video editing or something on it, but it stands solid on its own.
I don't think it is a bad first exposure to Apple at all, mostly because it is cheap and wouldn't that stink to spend $1700 on a machine that you regret?
With the knowledge that $700 anything is cheap for Apple and it won't be an extremely powerful computer, why not?

I think if you upgrade to 1G ram and a 7200RPM notebook hard drive (hitachi makes a 60G one), even a mac mini is quite useable. That is, unless, you plan on doing a lot of heavy video editing.

I've got a gratis Mac Mini - 80gb 1.42 etc. I upgraded it with pc2700 512mb and it's still slow as a dog. I blame the crappy 4200rpm laptop hard disk.
I have it on a KVM and every once in a while I'll switch to it if I need a new firefox session or my PC isn't working, and about 50% of the time it'll be frozen because of a kernel panic. This PC stays up for weeks on end and works flawlessly.
Don't even get me started on my 450MHz linux box that does everything the mini does, only better...

I currently don't even own a "digital" video camera, but if I would get one in the future, I would use it for near-basic video editing.
