I havent played my ps2 in atleast a month or two and i turn it on tonight to play some madden and it starts clicking and doesnt read the disc. So i turn it off blow out the dust and shit like that and nothing just more clicking. The last people that played my ps2 are some 8yr old kids when i told them not to (i wasnt home) so now i think my ps2 is fucked im not happy. Any suggestions?

tracemhunter

that doesnt work. i tried that on my dreamcast a few years back. still didnt fix my Jet Set Radio. ended up going to blockbuster and switching the stickers on the games.

Unfotunately, this is just something that PS2s do. I am personally on my 3rd PS2 and most of my friends each have had at least 2. A lens cleaner may work for a while, but it will not last long.

Mine started off only not playing DVD based games, then all games, then finally it wouldn't even play DVD movies. The PS2 warranty is only for 90 days and after that it will cost I beleive about $90 to fix if you send it to sony (unless they have finally accepted responsibility for fixing the obvious defect). I finally just accepted that they just break after a while. It's really shitty, but what are you gonna do?

I know how you can solve the problem.

Get an xbox! wink

yeah thats just fucking bullshit imo but thats prolle what i will have to do....this happened to one of my friends ps2's but i dont think it cost him $90 to fix it.

Well, I must admit that I could be way off on the cost for Sony to fix it. I never actually made any inquiries myself, but I did read a lot of stuff online and vaguely remember something about $90, but I could have just dreamed all of this up for all I know. You see, I suffer from CRS....

try cleaning the disc, and the lens, and then turning it upside down and turning it on.

used to happen with my wife's PS1, and we just turned it upside down (or on its side, that sometimes worked) and it would read it.

related to PS2s, anyone looking to sell a game or two - like a golf game or an older Madden game?

ok i know what to do!

well u got to be careful

flip ur ps2 upside down and take out all the screw covers mark where they go and take out all the screws and mark where they go
take off the ps2 cover CAREFULLY!unscrew the cd tray find the laser thngy and unscrew the screws youll find a white plastic thingy near holding onto the laser u need to unscrew that and get a new one and screw the new one in and put ur ps2 back together go to eba and search for ps2 laser arm for one.

GratisRocks is correct, your laser is shot.
You'll have to buy a new laser for it and swap it out. Find what model your PS2 is and you can pick 1 up from eBay for around $30-40.
Easy fix, I must of swap out at least 4 lasers for my nephews.

I dun understand how PS2's reputation got liek this... I have had my PS2 since 2001, and everyone in my household uses it, no problems whatsoever to this day.

Stroid

ive never had a problem i think ive actually had it about 2yrs and some not 1 1/2 no problems till now...but i have heard of this problem before

ajrock2000

Ive modded like 10 ps2s before and the clicking thing is always either

1. Bad Media or burn (although prob not the case if you have original copy) How does the bottom surface of your disc look? Scratches?

2. Laser is either dirty or just doesnt work anymore (Ive had 2 lasers just die on me before, you can ATTEMPT to adjust the pot settings internally but you will probably end up screwing it up ) )

yeah the disc is perfect no scratches at all im super anal when it comes to handling the discs

ajrock2000

Do what theysayjump said and trying turning it on its side and/or upside down. Believe it or not, this does work on occasion.

If that and cleaning the lens doesnt work, you need a new laser. Not a hard job at all to replace.

I have the same trouble Stroid. I put a game and it starts clicking and it freezes, then I bang the top, and It continues to work. But little did I know that by hitting the top, I was scratching the Games. I have taken it to the store I bought it form so they can fix it and they fized it once then the same thing happened and I sent it back today.

EatChex89

09-09-2005 21:55:27

you could take it apart and try to repair it.

although i think that might void the warranty and then Sony wouldn't even touch it.

gratisrocks

09-09-2005 21:57:45

u dont need a new laser just alaser arm aka the white plastic thingy

I've had a problem since probably the begining of summer, where my ps2 doesn't like to play dvds anymore. It started out as just refusing to play occasionally, but now it's almost never plays them. It's not certain movies, and it's only dvds not games. Would a lens cleaning take care of that?

Stroid

10-09-2005 00:15:18

idk what the problem is but i dont care if it doesnt play dvds as long as it plays games but it doesnt so im pissed

gratisrocks

10-09-2005 05:20:56

Stroid

10-09-2005 19:42:00

This happened to my Ps2 about a year ago. I sent it to sony and they fixed it for free. I just had to pay shipping costs. There used to be an FAQ about it on gamefaqs but now I can't find it... shock

Stroid

10-09-2005 20:29:20

well its to late for that i took things into my own hands and now m ps2 is really fucked i cant even find where all the screws went although i put them in specific sections

thehacker010

This is the reason why I have to play all my games from a HDD....

Luckly, I can still boot PS1 games long enough to start the HDLoader.

Yeah, if you opened up the box you voided the warranty. They won't replace it for you. Try ebay, you could probably get one pretty cheap.
