Dude.... I sure as hell didn't vote for Bush, but there are plenty enough national guard left in the US to handle the situation in New Orleans, the problem was mobilizing them in time and having supplies ready in time.
3 dollar gas has very little to do with Katrina or Bush as you'll see when the prices don't go down after this disaster is cleaned up. There will be a lot more talk about gas prices soon.

I personally don't think his comments were ignorant. His comments were something that needed to be said because it's true. Race & class is a big reason why the efforts to rescue those people have been slow. I bet if this would've happened at a place where the population was mostly white, it wouldn't been handled the way it was. Even though I wasn't affected, seeing what happened let me know that black folks are still second class citizens. What an eye-opening experience.

Again, even if Bush is the one making those decisions you're talking about a President who put 2 African Americans in the most senior positions of his cabinet. We're just gonna have to agree to disagree. I didn't really think Bush was a racist before this but now I'm agreeing with what's being said. I can't think of one justifiable reason why it took so long for those people to get help. I guess I'm still worked up emotionally about the whole situation but Bush has lost all the points he had left with me (and trust me he didn't have many to begin with).

I agree with that, he should have met with Sheehan. A lot of people in power get out of touch with the people, it's sad.

Yes i have had a stand in my lunch for like a week easy then we had a hole day of FUN AND GAMES with the army like driving drunk(car jerks like your brunk or something) and then free food and stuff and games. Do we have flood specialist teams in the US to help? The fact is the city is flooded and its difficult just to get to these people. Yes , the same thing is happening in each pic, but since the artic;es are form different agencies you can't infer any racism from them. The fact of the matter is that either agency could have said eactly what they said if the pictures were reversed. Hello everyone, I just read through this thread, and I find it incredibly distressing that Kanye West would try to pin the blame for the destruction and the lack of an immediate response on our President. After all, while the response may be inadequete, saying that this is a racially motivated issue is absolutely foolish. How many white people are out there right now, or people of any race for that matter, trying to save lives and do what they can to rescue people? There are men and women risking and putting themselves out there to save people of all races. If you want to say that it's because the area is poor, that's one thing, but why turn this into a race issue?

Many people had a lot of opportunity to leave. Please, and i'm sure that the Reverend Al Sharpton is right behind Jessie and Kanye. At what point do you hold people responsible for their own actions? While we are on the subject..what do you have to say about the looters and those who are shooting guns? After all, I don't think they are helping the relief effort, in fact they are hampering it. If anyone is upset about the response time in getting people out of the city, they should blame all those people shooting at the helicopters, murdering fellow Americans, and raping the women around them. It is one thing to help people in desperate need, it's another to walk into a line of fire from those very people you're trying to save.
I love Bill Cosby, btw Trevor. I admire him for who he his and what he stands for. I love how he doesn't blame "white men" for the problems facing black youth in America today.
And before anyone asks, I'm not black. I'm not racist either. I grew up in an area where there were as many blacks as there were whites. When I went to college I was shocked and surprised to find that most of my classmates were white or foreign. It made me VERY uncomfortable.
Btw, if anyone wants to talk about racism, check out what Purdue did to one if it's starting linemen. Uche Nwaneri was suspended for a semester after breaking the jaw of a fellow teammate that instigated a fight with him. The other student was white and had been involved in several other altercations with fellow teammates. Not only was he a known racist (he had been known to right derogatory terms on black teammates lockers') but he was a known instigator. He received no punishment and voluntarily left the school. Uche tried to appeal the punishment and it was rejected. He was harrassed during interogation of the incident and was treated like a criminal. Uche got screwed by a University that has a very small number of AMERICAN minorities (we have a lot of international students, but they are not American citizens).

There have been other stories about dead shooting victims that have come out of this unofficially. Once the cleanup gets underway a little more the stories will start to come out I'm sure. I'd imagine the shooting is coming from the reported gangs in trucks with guns. But who knows. We might never know.
But nobody should deny that the military is needed in New Orleans to keep the peace.
