Anyone do this before?
I think its time for me to do it, but I'm kind of afraid.

Yah.. infact I just did it about 2 weeks ago. I have 2 hard drives so I just installed Windows XP on the spare one I hadand booted up on that one and then logged on and formatted my other hard drive. I backed up all my music and all the other important stuff before I did any of that.

the only reason I used 2 hard drives was cuz my windows installer disk wouldnt format the hard drive that it was already on for some reason. For my computer ou just gotta insert the windows xp disk and boot up and then keep pressing F12 and then boot from your CdDrive and then you can usually format and reinstall

Why would you be afraid? Just make sure your cd works correctly. No scratches and what not. I've done that before. I formatted my HD and then had a scratch on my XP cd and couldn't reload the OS. I ended up with Windows 98 for a couple months.

just back up all your stuff onto cds or dvds and restart the computer. when you restart it put in the cd and before it loads xp it will say press any key to boot cd. boot. delete the partition you have and make another one and install on that as ntfs.

Depending on the size of your hard drive, you could wipe and refomat your hard drive in under an hour, but unless you have someplace to put all of the files you want to save, you're screwed.
I have my OS on one 6gb drive and then have 2 200GB drives for everything else. That way, when I wipe the OS drive, I don't have to worry about the other drives.
