Hurricane tried to take my internet. Tried.

So this stupid fucking hurricane comes through last night and knocks down a bunch of branches and trees here, and forces 5 gallons of water into the hatch of my car. One of the trees fell right on our phone line, cutting it in two, leaving one end of the wire hanging from the pole about 15 feet in the air. This of course knocked out our phone and DSL. Phone I can live without, but fast internet is another story entirely. I get cranky and go into withdrawal... unacceptable.

After I spent most of the day with a chainsaw cutting up the stupid offending tree and hauling the pieces off, I got out my wiring stuff and went to work with a fistful of butt connectors. After preparing everything on the ground with a length of patch cable I had in the garage, I used an extension ladder to climb up the pole like a monkey and spliced the wires back together. End result surprisingly, phone and DSL are now both working perfectly. Jon loves him some internet.

You can see the tail end of the broken wire swinging in the wind at the top right of the first pic.

your yard looks much worse than mine./ a couple of my trees had branches that broke off and we have a huge pile of them in the front waiting for pick up, but really, that was it. Luckily my neighborhood has all grounded wire so we didnt have to worry about any of that, btw, you should get comcast cable internet... deinitely 20 times faster than dsl.. no lie

Yes braintrust, my sole purpose in fixing the broken phone line was to get back on these forums. Never mind the fact that cellular towers are down all over, my mother is sick, and without a phone we'd essentially be screwed if anything happened that would require calling 911. I don't know what I'd do with myself if I couldn't read posts by stunningly intelligent people such as yourself.

Yeah I know, I had it when I lived in Tallahassee. I've been staying with my parents temporarily while I studied for the bar, and now I lithinkli my gf and I have found an apartment so I should be out soon. It'll be Comcast for sure then.

ummmmmm excuse my friend, exile, he has some issues.. He didnt have power until yesterday (i think he has power now) so he was in withdrawal. Good luck with the bar exam, my dad studied for that forever and passed (hes a judge now so of course he passed) but it was a grewling few weeks as far as i know..

k I'm bringin back the hurricane thread. i don't have cable and i'm kind of interested to hear whats going on now. cat 5 too. gas prices are about to get even higher,
