september 3 don't buy gas
This was a message I received on Myspace,!!!
Dont buy gas on September 3rd!!!!
Boycotting the gas company will decrease the price dramatically. Ive checked into it and if over half the US didnt buy gas for 1 day, the gas companys would be close to bankrupcy!!! So Lets show them how to lower gas prices. So repost this to all your friends. We have to get the word out. Its NATIONAL DONT buy gas DAY!!!
So repost it!!!

A new car isn't in my near future, but hopefully in a couple years I'll find myself in a nice hybrid. I figure in two years, the technology will have come a long way... especially with gas prices they way they are.

they do have hybrid cars, they just slow... Toyota recently released SUV half and half, hybrid and gas.

Yeah, I'm very familiar with the hybrids that are out now. I am also privy to (through my job) information about upcoming hybrids. Definitely worth waiting a year or two for.

Sorry to bust a nut on you in yet another thread but this isn't going to hurt the oil producing countries who regulate the price of oil. In this case you would not want to hurt the oil companies because they aren't the ones causing you high gas prices. Thats like getting pissed at the grocery store because milk costs more than 2.00. I mean, if you're going after the middleman then you might want to realize the US Government includes a 0.50 per gallon tax on gasoline which is mostly pure profit. That tax helps pay for highway systems and such.
If you want a cheaper gas bill than the only thing that you can do is work on consumption. There are a billion ways to do this. But how about everyone on September 2nd (3rd is a Sat) decides to make it national carpool day. Because then you can cut your gas price in half or more.
And who cares how fast hybrids are... a prius is fast enough to keep up on the highway and is there any logical reason to have a car faster than that?
And if you're driving a car that gets less than 20mpg you have nobody to blame but yourself for the cost of filling up your tank.

Hybrid technology is still new, it will go down in cost. And you'll also have used up less oil in the cars lifespan which has much more important implications than your pocketbook.
Keep this stuff in mind when you are talking about oil prices.

Nice links, Jake. On a side note, I probably WON'T be filling up on September 3rd. I do everything in my power to only fill up on Tuesday or Wednesday. That's when gas is the cheapest.

they're just slow? what cave have u been living in? the honda accord hybrid is a V6 with an engine more powerful than the regular V6. It has 250 HP, and the gas efficiency is awesome. It's about 5-6 grand more, but the "less powerful" thing is not true anymore.
Oil as a source of energy is a thing of the past.
People better start getting used to not having it because it won't be too long before it runs out.

And I bet the car you drove over there had much better mileage and you probably drove it less right?
I for one wouldn't mind seeing a higher price of oil. It would certainly suck for a few years but thats what needs to happen to put more money into developing alternatives.
Jake, that second link you gave is extremely scary. I'm beginning to think up ways to retire to self sufficient farm, lol.

for got to tell, in europe people prefer 4-cylinder engines or 5 speed manual shift. my cousin came from israel, when he saw my old shitty Toyota Avalon V6, for him it was like a porch )

umm do you know how much money the oil companies have? They arent gonna go bankrupt if we dont buy oil for a day. Plus we are gonna have to compensate for not buying gas that one dayand end up buying it another so whats the point.

how many people here fill their cars up EVERY day? thats a lot of money you could save if you used public transport, walked, carpooled etc.
people are far too dependant on their cars these days, you cant go anywhere (at least where i live) unless you have a car. which for me is shit, because i dont drive. i dont drive because its too expensive, ive never had any reason to want to or need to (we have a good public transpor system where i grew up), its bad for the environment and there too many twatty drivers out there who dont give a shit about anyone else on the road.
the only car i would consider driving would be a car that doesnt use oil/petrol.
fossil fuels are supposed to run out in about 45-50 years, and unless something is done about finding alternatives then this country especially will be fucked.
oh and ive always wondered why you guys call it gas, when its clearly a liquid?

"Gas" has a gaseous form. The gas we use for cars is gas that has been converted from "gaseous form" to the liquid. So I'm guessing the name is still BS because Water is not called Water when it freezes.

The upside to high gas prices is that it would make you think twice about driving your car when you don't need to.
Well I am 17 and i dont even want to drive with all the high prices so i dont even have my driving permit yet, I can just boom rides its been working for me for 17 years... i will most likly go for my driving permit soon tho. But i wont buy gas on that date tho..lol

yeah my thoughts exactly Batman....like i said too many people are dependant on their cars its ridiculous.
you dont have to drive across the road to the shop, or round the corner to your friends house etc, thats just plain laziness, and i know there are people who do that.
there was an article on the BBC site yesterday about how 64.5% of Americans are obese or overweight......how many of those do you think drive to places they could just as easily walk to?

Living in Texas has disadvantages. Everything is spaced far apart and walking is not really an option for most trips. I currently work 3-4 miles from my apartment which puts biking at a no no unless the weather was just right. But right now it's 101 and 50% humidity. Public transportation also leaves a lot to be desired.
When I lived with a friend for a month South of London I got to experience the lovely UK public trans system. Walked a short mile to the train station, hopped on a train to the city, took 15 minutes, came in to Waterloo station where I could transfer to the subway without eaven going outside and go anywhere in the city in minutes. I loved it.
Maybe I just need to move to the city. But that would only be 1 persons solution, everyone can't live in the city for obvious reasons.
Anyone have a cure all solution? Electric cars that plug in to houses don't solve energy problems for obvious reasons. There is no such thing as solar car that works well. I'm at a loss here.

I'll join you in that quest.
I want to build a house independent from the electrical grid so that I can rely on myself to provide what I need. You CAN build a house that doesn't need A/C or a heating device if its built right. Read Natural Capitalism for insights on that.
This will also help to reduce waste of various resources because the value of those resources is that much more apparent in that situation.
