That will be pretty awesome when all cars run like that. Gas prices would most likely be like $15 a gallon though.

Nice. I drive a 99 Taurus...not terrible mileage, but certainly nothing spectacular. Its funny how the "cheap" cars have better mileage (i.e. Kia, Hyundai, etc.)

Those cars both get good mileage and are "cheap" because they're made by Japanese corporations. wink

Crazy thing about conserving gas... All federal roads are funded mostly by the Highway Fund. This federal fund is based entirely on taxes on gasoline at the pump. It works out really well because the cars that use more gas are tougher on roads. It's a great way for people to pay for the roads in a way that's about equal to as much as they drive them.

Problem is With all the gas saving we are doing we are going to run out of the highway fund and no longer have a way to fund the maintenance of highways! Either our taxes will go up OR there's been talk of forcing all cars to have a system (maybe GPS) that tracks their mileage(privacy invasion?).

Anyways, I just think it's an interesting byproduct of such things, and possibly a reason Washington isn't pushing for such gas saving devices as hard as some would wish.
