my iPod is fucked.
last night all of a sudden my computer (running win2000 SP4) decided that it didnt want to recognise it, meanwhile wiping all my songs from it. so i tried it on my other computer (running XP, SP1) and it wouldnt recognise it either.
when i connect it to either computer, it charges, but cant be recognised.
ive tried restoring and reseting it, but neither work. ive tried connecting it to the AC adapter, putting it on hold, off hold, then holding in menu and pause/play at the same time....still wont work.
ive checked the ipodlounge forums and there is a thread with about 20 pages, mostly of people saying they have the same problem. the ones who have a solution, their solutions wither wont work, or dont apply to me.
anybody else had a similar problem or any idea as to how to fix it?
id appreciate any help!
cheers!

Your iPod is not getting recognized?
I would say uninstall then reinstall the software but since it didn't work on either computer.......
Hmmm that's an odd problem.

To go into disc mode you have to hold down the center button and play at the same time. If that doesnt work then I guess you are fuc###. Good luck to you.

i just called apple and let me say this....their customer service is amazing! roll
not only did they tell me that my iPod isnt registered to me but to someone else, they also told me that if i wanted to know how to fix the problem over the phone, i had to pay either $49 for one customer care plan, or $59 for another.
so im stuck with having to check on apples website now......i doubt ill get it fixed or even find how to fix it.
hehehhehe

It won't recognize it at all? Not even as an ext. HD? Have you tried both Firewire and USB? Have you tried with ml_ipod or another alternative software? Just for kicks, can you apply pressure above or below the connector (not hard, but gently - I'm talking about the ipod end) while it's connected to the pc to see if it's a connection problem?

It's times like this I wish I had gone to Best Buy and done some finagling to get their warranty...oh well.
Sorry to hear about your iPod. ( I'd cry if mine broke. (then I'd find a way for they boyfriend to buy me one).

the nearest apple store to me is 2 hours away.
i got it fixed with the reset option, apparently you have to lay it down on a flat surface to work. i havent had the chance to connect it to my computer and put all my songs back on though.
but yeah the computer wouldnt recognise it at all, it would charge, but it wouldnt show up as an ext HDD or anything. i tried all the reset options but none worked until i laid on a table and tried it, and it worked 1st time.
if you ever have this problem, just remember, LAY IT FLAT AND RESET.
thanks for the help though.

If you're still having problems just go to the apple store when you get a chance..from my experience they are really nice and are pretty flexible. They replaced my mini without asking many questions

yeah the woman on the phone was nice and all, just kinda sucked that she couldnt tell me anymore on the phone unless i paid for it.
it is a bit of a drive for me to the nearest store though, and since i dont drive and my wife is sick, it would just depend on whether she would be up to it or not.
im just glad its not a computer cos that would really suck.

I love driving, I couldn't see myself not doing it; it's so much easier getting places without having to ride the bus or rely on someone else.
