i am wanting to learn some php. i know html if that helps at all. i have no programming experience whatsoever so i have no idea where to start. i went to php.net and did some samples and stuff and it is starting to make sense but i was wondering if you knew of any books or anything or even where to begin.

Hey man, I too am trying to learn php. A good website is http//www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp . They have alot of stuff to help you learn the basics and a little more.

Ha, I'm [i2e1070d948]also[/i2e1070d948] trying to learn it! I've checked php.net and that link and I'm working through their tutorials.
Anybody else have any suggestions on books? I would like to have something to study away from the computer.

I learned QuickBasic and Visual Basic from a class at my school, and from there I just taught myself. I'd try to find an intro programming class at your local community college.

Any particular IDE or editor particularly suited for PHP?

Wow, I used the word "particular" a lot in that last post.

I use JEdit for PHP, HTML, CSS, etc. It's great with the ftp plugin. About as close to developing locally as it gets (assuming you're not actually developing locally)
