nusgax, your icon needs to be under 100px wide it's messing up the site columns.

I THINK the way he is doing it is (in photoshop) put the person/animal/whatever on one layer and erase the background of it, then do a layer color overlay of black. Then make the background whatever color you want on a lower layer. The apple is just the regular apple icon that is partially transparent. I'll try making some of these tomorrow.

On second glance the iCloud one has some white highlights in it... maybe he just turned the brightness down almost all the way... hmm

you can select the image, or "slice" around the image, then when its selected just paint the fucker black.

The highlights are done with the eraser tool at about 10% opacity on the dark layer. ) I made one out of a kitty cat once. His is much better than mine. ;)

no eraser tool used. i cut out parts that i want to "shine" (like metal) and put them in with partial opacity and fill.

tried making one out of that. but in the end, you wouldnt be able to tell what it was.
