Dead at 67 from lung cancer.

In my eyes he was one of the most soothing voices on television.. he covered everything from Watergate to 9/11. He will be missed.

RIP

The BBC

[quote254ba9cad3]Canadian-born newsreader Peter Jennings, who read the news to Americans in five separate decades, has died at the age of 67.

Mr Jennings, who announced that he was suffering from lung cancer in April, died at his home in New York.

He has been described as one of the most powerful and influential journalists on television in the US.

Mr Jennings had worked with the ABC network since 1964, covering both the Berlin's Wall building and fall. [/quote254ba9cad3]

his name sounds familiar, but i cant say i know who he is off the top of my head.

did the people like him? was he one of those newreaders who were like an institution over here? (

Hey was a great reporter. I had a friend that worked behind the scenes and he said he was a huge dick to people. Anyway, I thought he was a great reporter.

He probably was a dick. About 95% of all celebrities are assholes so I don't see why he'd be any different. It's still sad that he died, though. I wonder what kind of details they will give, if any, because he didn't live very long after going off the air.

I liked the guy, I always thought ABC did the best newscasts, but did anybody else have no idea that he had lung cancer and was off the air?

I always watched him on World News Tonight. This morning I was sleeping on the couch and waiting for Tivo to record the shuttle landing, but that didnt happen. I watched the news isntead and saw this story on it. I was surprised even though I was there when they announced his being sick. RIP

He announced about 3 or 4 months ago on the air he was taking a leave of absence due to lung cancer, and has been off since. He was really hoarse with his voice so he might have already been under treatment. With such a rapid death, I bet he was stage 4. He also mentioned on the air it was most likely due to the 20 years of smoking he did.

Wow, that is really sad. He was a pillar of the broadcasting industry. The smoking part though, well that's his own fault.

If he was smoking up to this day than it was his fault, but many people his age that are smoking became addicted when the effects of smoking weren't widly known.

Now if you're talking about a 20 year old who smokes, then yeah, they are signing a few years off of their life and they should know it.
