well i need a notebook for college and i am leaning towards the powerbook 15". i will only be using it for things such as browsing this forum and word processing and basic things. i still have the alienware area-51m in mind but i do not need a performance pc. i just built this computer a little over a month ago. but i dunno. the alienware only gets like 45mins of battery life because of the p4 but the powerbook with the g4 gets like 4 and a half hours. i would appreciate some suggestions.

If you prefer mac, go with the powerbook. Want nice battery life and Windows? Go with Dell. Use one of the $750 off coupons can get a good set up for around $800.

ughh... no dell. i hate dell. my brother's dell could only play half of mystic river when we went on vacation.

yay for companies that load their laptops up with trials and other crap you dont need? apple doesnt put near as much stuff on there as dell does.

Agreed )

I got used the $750 off coupon from the get go.

Then talked CS into giving me a $90 credit.

Then during my first 2-3 weeks with it, got $215 in coupons to use at dell home, no min. purchase.

Now, CS does suck, but I recommend just emailing them, works out great ). Battery lasts me about 4.5-5 hours.

Other good notebooks
Sony, Toshiba

I just requested the operating system CD, and just formated the drive and put on a fresh install of Windows. Just a few hours, not much at all.

My friend just bought an Alienware notebook i think the 51-m but im not sure..i took a look at it and its a huge mothertrucker..like almost 14lbs or something..really nice though and runs incredibly fast on games as well as programs..but if you dont need performance and just gonna use it for WP and browsing the internet just go with a Powerbook..

I would get a cheap laptop now and get the powerbook next year. The powerbooks will improve maybe 250% with the intel chip. I already prefer pbook over the windows laptops. I had my share of windows pc's (dells) and what not and I am very tired of them. Sure they are ok, dell is very good. However, I am sick of all the errors, lockups, and error reporting crap. You won't get any viruses on the mac or spyware. For now a good choice would be the newly improved ibook for about $999. Next year will be the time to buy macs D

14 pounds?! are you serious? jesus christ. my mind is made up now. i dont want to dislocate my shoulder when carrying the alienware over my shoulder. the 15" powerbook is only 5.6lb and the 17" is only 6.9lb.
