Has anyone upgraded? how was it?

tracemhunter

28-07-2005 07:31:00

i refuse. i want to keep my 1.50

dragonguy83

28-07-2005 07:50:52

Its going to get hacked anyway everything does. i have 1.5 too but i dont use the homebrew stuff, i think its silly to have this great piece of technology and use it for old technology. but that is just me. the reason why i have not upgraded is i want to see if there are some bad bugs and features in the coming days. i wish i knew when the official us release was

28-07-2005 08:06:00

I will upgrade once it is hacked. I like 1.5, can download the games on put them on my memory stick that way I don't waste money on them. Plus there are many great programs people have made. Remote access via VNC ) And many others. If you noticed they haven't even hacked 1.51 or 1.52, so it will be a while before 2.0 is hacked. They encryption is getting much greater on them.

i got it, its so awesome!

recommended by me

there is some "hack" (sorta is sorta isn't) but it is at http//boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=psp&message.id=717541 and it takes advantage of the javascript in the web browser

it doesn't have emulators, but it does have games like tetris etc. and apps like calendar etc.

but yea the web browser is pretty tight and you should get it. i have had no problems w/ it and the japanese version works the same as if it was a U.S. version

dragonguy83

28-07-2005 08:18:07

did you have a 1.5

gregcool

28-07-2005 08:30:00

There are web browsers for 1.5...

The web browser in 2.0 is vastly superior to the wipe out and tenchi browser. In the 2.0 browser you can Download a video off the web and play it on your psp wihout your computer. 2.0 also supports more image
and music formats. In addition a new video format is supported
mp4 (AVC) [b4e3f11bee0](h.264)[/b4e3f11bee0] its a [b4e3f11bee0]higher quality[/b4e3f11bee0] and [b4e3f11bee0]better compressing [/b4e3f11bee0]format than mp4. Another cool thing you
can do is save a picture as a wall paper.

Here is a full list of changes....

Main function updated in system software version 2.0
- Network
Internet browser added
li Macromedia Flash is not supported. A part of the web pages might not be displayed correctly
li The startup of the internet browser can be limited.

- Video
Jump function added (UMD Video & UMD Music)
A-B repeat function added (UMD Video & UMD Music & videos stored in Memory sticks)
"43 mode" added to Video mode (videos stored in Memory sticks)
Sound mute function added (videos stored in Memory sticks)
MP4 (AVC) [b4e3f11bee0](H.264)[/b4e3f11bee0] D format playback support added (videos stored in Memory sticks)

-Music
Can accept music tracks in Atract3 Plus format from "Sonicstage" under version 3.2 (now for pre-order)
MP4 (AAC) & Wave (Linear PCM) format playback support added (music stored in Memory sticks)

- Photo
Wallpaper function added
Image receiving function added
TIFF, GIF, PNG, BMP format supported

- Settings
"Korean language" added to "System settings" -> "System language"
"Character set" added to "System settings"
"Theme settings" added
"Internet browser startup limit" added to "Security settings"
"WPA-PSK (TKIP)" added to security method in "Network settings"
Keyboard now support web input.
li All the setting before the upgrade will be preserved.

Update Instructions
- Connect your PSP to your PC via USB cable.
- Goto the directory /PSP/GAME/ in your memory stick.
- Create a sub-directory named "UPDATE" (MUST be uppercase)
- Copy the downloaded PBP file into this directory.
- Rename it to "EBOOT.PBP" (MUST be uppercase too)
- Disconnect the PSP from the PC
- In PSP's XMB interface, goto "Game" -> "Memory Stick"
- Browse to the Update file and start it.
Note You need to plug in the AC adapter, and have at least 50% remaining power in order to proceed with the upgrade, otherwise the program will be terminated before starting to upgrade. DO NOT unplug anything during the upgrade process, or you might brick your PSP immediately.

So as anyone can see there is more to the 2.0 update than the webbrowser..... roll

of course none of these new features are worth upgrading if you own 1.5 (like me D )

For real. The new enhancements sound cool but Im not biting to change my firmware just for web support and wallpaper since personalize allows me to do that anyways. Video thing does sound cool as Im not too impressed with mp4. I got to say my PSP rocks right now. I have NES, Snes, Genesis, photos, videos(family guy), movies( Kill Bill 2), and Nba 2k5 all on 1 memory card. Now thats pimpin.

tracemhunter

28-07-2005 12:27:21

yea thats what my psp was used for. super mario. i put my psp on ebay today.

JUNIOR6886

28-07-2005 12:36:09

there are some [bf0ad89b723]very[/bf0ad89b723] good titles on the horizon for the psp
(GTA, Tenchu, Madden 06)
and assuming they dont require firmware updates i think psp owners have a lot to look foward to D

tracemhunter

28-07-2005 12:39:20

yea the only reason i got the psp was for gta but they pushed the date back like 5 months what it was suppose to be in june or w/e so i have said fuck it. im probably not missing much. rockstar did horrible with midnight club 3 (those damn loading times) so i am not expecting much more out of it.

Collateral

28-07-2005 12:42:58

midnight club dub edition is awesome. I rented it a few months ago and couldn't quit playing.

good2speed

28-07-2005 12:59:48

I cant complain. I have 3 old classical systems on a device smaller than a 1980 cell phone and i can play PSP games without shelling out crazy dollars

total cost

PSP - $0
1 gb Mem Stick - $99 shipped
Usb Cable - $4

good2 speed how did you get nba on the memory card?

good2speed

28-07-2005 16:48:23

grab the iso from the internet.

Get isobuster or winrar to extract the files from the iso

Once files are extracted you will need to change the folder name from PSP_game to NBA_Game

Once the folder is renamed you put the nba_game folder in the root directory of your psp ( whatever drive your psp is on your pc) Mine is f so I put the folder in the f drive

Next once that is completed you will need to use explot tool

Grab the loader for nba2k5 and use the explot tool to create the two folders
nba & nba%. The exploit tool will load the launchers in the correct place

(F)\PSP\GAME\Nba
(F)\PSP\GAME\Nba%

If you need more help let me know

dragonguy83

28-07-2005 16:49:32

good2speed

tracemhunter

28-07-2005 20:44:03

2.0 rocks i love the web browser! haven't really tried anythign else that they added

Narakukuku

29-07-2005 05:37:18

Isn;t this 2.0 upgrade only for Japanese units as of now?
The USA version doesn't have it yet.

dragonguy83

29-07-2005 06:10:23

you can still upgrade

CollidgeGraduit

29-07-2005 06:12:57

I'm going to wait until the US release, even if it really is the same thing. I'm not in a huge rush to be able to surf the web on my PSP.

dragonguy83

29-07-2005 06:19:00

i think that is where i stand

Vector

29-07-2005 07:22:03

1.5 until they bring the zouswitch

what it does it take any version of the psp back to 1.5... so far, there is no sign of the 2.0 running homebrew or xworks

also waiting for pspsix, said to have a much better browser than the one on 2.0, os coming out currently for 1.5

Narakukuku

04-08-2005 16:07:27

I will update next friday.

gregcool

04-08-2005 16:09:47

Yes, waiting is the best thing, as it voids your warrenty if you put the Jap one on. I am keeping my 1.5, full iso loader is out now. They have some decent browser's too, but I can use my laptop for surfing.

dragonguy83

04-08-2005 18:25:42

what browser are you using?

hehehhehe

04-08-2005 21:14:39

I just tried out the tenchi browser, it works pretty well (no need to set up DNS and a portal or anything like with the wipeout hack).

Just tried the fast loader with coded arms, the controls take some getting used to but graphics are nice.

All I want now is a good divx/xvid player so good movies can be about 150MB...

smiller12

05-08-2005 02:53:23

is the internet on the new browser somehow faster than the wipeout internet?

I don't know about the PSP2 browser but the Tenchi one is faster (that's what others say too).

Some of you PMed me about it, I don't think it's too large of a file so if you guys can't find it, maybe I'll email it or put it somewhere for you when I get home.

Blink182=Gone

05-08-2005 12:36:00

nm, I picked up a copy of it. Can't wait to test it out later.

dragonguy83

05-08-2005 16:14:31

Where did you get it?

[quote6e2056b778="dragonguy83"]Where did you get it?[/quote6e2056b778]
I picked up a copy from torrents.

It is a really fast browser, but it's in Japanese. Even though it is nice and remotely quicker than Wipeout's browser, I don't think I'm going to use it...since the menus are unreadable.

dragonguy83

05-08-2005 16:53:31

is there nowhere to get it in english?

that's what I'm trying to figure out. From what I've gathered so far...the answer is no.
