I'm a herper (reptile and amphibian enthusiast). I am actually using the paypal money I gain from doing these sites and other peoples offers for getting snakes that would usually be a a little expensive to just come out of my money. anyways, anyone else take interrest in stuff like this?

well girls ummmm ask your mom..
your friend has a zoo in his basement, I would definitely do that if I didnt like in Florida and I had a basement. Also I'm too young to own venomous(not poisonous) animals legally nor do I have the experience..

well he works for the University of Georgia so he has plenty of experience with them...he raises venomous snakes from birth which is kinda cool although they are quite frightning. one time we had a keg party at the house and some assholes let a few snakes loose. that shit sucked fortunatly they only released 3 non-venomus snakes so it wasnt to bad but one was a 9 1/2 foot vietnamies beauty snake which he we pissed of the day before that wasnt pleasant.

I am an aquarist, and I've noticed that the two hobbies tend to tie into one another often. I am into the fish hobby heavily, but I haven't yet crossed into that territory.

I noticed the cross also. I've found on herp forums that often time people have either betta collections or large display aquariums with exotics such as eels or some strictly aquatic reptile which is cool. I, myself, plan on having a saltwater aquarium in the future.

That's neat, I breed bettas and will be showing some in competition eventually.
I haven't kept marine yet, so I decided to turn my 55 gallon to saltwater after I take a break from breeding for awhile (right now I use it as a growout tank for fry).

I'm still extremely unknowledgeable about breeding bettas. I found a site from a local breeder yesterday and was looking around at all the different ones but I didnt see any females and am still baffled as to how to tell which one is which.

Oh dear, please don't get me started... once you get me talking about this stuff, I cannot stop. It is just that bad with me.
In general, males are long finned and females are short finned, unless you get the wild types/Plakats, in which case both are short finned. Then body type comes into play, and the oviposter. The oviposter is a tiny white dot (eggspot) on her belly.
See, look what you did now...

lol... sorry? I figured that in captive bred ones sexing was probably extremely easy as all the males look similar in pet shops. Breeders have much more enticing creatures though, or atleast from what I've seen. Hell, breeding animals is fun! I would be breeding my two White's tree frogs, but I dnot have a large enough tank to house up to 1500 tad poles at the moment, nor do I have a place to sell them. Also there is the whole issue with brumating and/or simulating the rainy season in my room.

an interest in girls is called Ornithology wink
my wife used to have bettas, but they either died or mutated and had to be flushed. one of the lat ones she got was a white (and kinda blueish purple)crown taile. paid $40 for it from someone online. that was a nice fish. not long after getting him he died of course.
she also had a 400 gallon pond in her basement with a couple of Koi in it. they were cool!

400 gallons in a basement is a lot... we are digging up a trench in my backyard which should be a good 500+ gallons for koi. ...... mustve been interresting. As for bettas and keeping em.. I've always hadweird luck. When i was much younger they died when I tried to take care of them, then i had one i kept for a while but almost never chagned the water, then my sister took it and chagned the water properly and all that stuff and it died... very starnge

Isn't that the study of birds? It is because I remember that was the only question I missed on a biology test.
It's the study of birds.
Or were you just being sarcastic?
