I used to have a couple forums and I just learned the ropes by editing the php code for hacks and stuff.. Took me a couple weeks to understand but its pretty easy you can get the hang of it.

Wait for Admin to chime in...he's got some pretty extensive knowledge in PHP. I've got a great PDF ebook I could send you if you'd like, though. PHP.net is a great resource too.
