i was thinking about using Skype but although after reading about it and it sounds great and all, i thought id ask anyone here if they use it, see what people who use it think about it?
do you need a USB phone to use it? or can you use a microphone or is there something else you can use?
are the rates for international calls actually a good deal?
whats the sound quality/reception like?
do they have good customer service?
do you have to know anything about a computer to use it or set it up? (I.E will my mother-in-law be able to use it and set it up considering she doesn't know shit about computers?)
id appreciate any help with this. D

skype is good but there is a new program called gizmo project search it on google. people can call your computer from a land line, and it functiosn the same as skype.

Sorry, I didn't clarify. It's free to call from computer to computer, but it cost to call a phone.

yeah i knew that part, but do you get your own Skype phone number, or is it just the regular phone number for the house that you call?
i know that you have to have 2 people using skype for it to be free....so if i called someone, both using skype, i just dial their landline number?

If you're doing it that way, then it's like instant messaging. You make a screen name and it connects threw that.

sound quality is good. you can get skypein service (which gives you your own phone number, and when someone calls it, skype rings on your PC), and skypeout service (which allows you to call real phones from your PC)

so how does it work if you dont use those skypein and skypeout services?
im still confused as to how it works to call someone......do i HAVE to sign up for those services to call another computer? what number do i dial if wanted to call someone else who has skype?

I've used it with a friend who is in europe right now. Crystal clear full duplex.
it has some other nice features (virtual #, voicemail, calling to a landline, etc.) for affordable prices.

I frickin love skype. I use it everyday. Its cool cause its just like aim but with voice. If theyre online then you just give them a call. D Its so cool. Some girl from Europe called me one day and was like hey. I talk to her like every week now. Its pretty cool. I recommend getting it. lol

someone said its like IM. You have a username set up on skype I think with a 'buddy list'. If you see em on line just give em a call through their username on skype

when you sign up for the free part of skype you dont use numbers... you just type in their user name or their regestiered real name and they will be called.... from what others have written, you cant call land lines unless you pay for it, the same for landlines calling you. I believe that once you sign up for the latter, youll be given your own personal number just for skype that is either unique according to your own location or a toll freee 800 number. I cant guarantee that though, I'm jsut making an assumption..
All in all, skype is pretty cool, they should add video phone sorta features on it..
