Does this email sound correct/safe enough to any of you guys..

Hello,

If you want to see the car i will have to come to NY, but i don't want to make the trip unless i have a buyer for the car, so if you decide to buy the car i will come to NY and we can arrange a meeting or I can ship the car, but i will need the payment to be done before, as i don't want to make the trip in vain.I've said the car is in perfect mechanical and esthetically condition.I know that $9,100 is a big amount so,to get this started I need a deposit of $4,500 for the car.As soon as the deposit checks out I will take a plane to US and take care of things.

I am a Square Trade member and I want to make the deal thru them. They will act like a THIRD PARTY and we will be both protected. I will give you a few days to test the car and to see that nothing is wrong with it.I made few deals on eBay and Cars in this way and it worked very well.
Here are the steps of the deal

1.The Seller will open the transaction --> 2.The buyer has to make the payment to Square Trade Financial Department --> 3.The Seller will receive the confirmation that the payment is done --> 4.The seller will ship the item to the buyer and he has 5 days to test check it -->5.The buyer will contact Square Trade to tell them if he is satisfied or not --> 6.Square Trade will release the money to the seller(in case the buyer is satisfied) and to the buyer(in case that he is not satisfied).

So,please wrote this email twice and let me know.I hope you agree with me,because I think that it is the best way to protect both(seller and buyer).
Just email me back and let me know

Thanks,
James

What kind of feedback does he have?

Square Trade is good, just read all terms and see how much "protection" you really have. Have not dealt with them personally but have heard many things about them. Still seems kind of weird, but may be totally legit

What kind of car is it? Link to the auction?

hehehhehe

Does Square trade do escrow? I didn't know you could do a deal "through" them (is he suggesting that as opposed to ebay or with?). Make sure to check all that out.

His English and punctuation is poor. Is he foreign?

Didn't notice he wasn't in the US. I don't see escrow services in square trade so see what he says just for fun. I get the feeling he's a scammer...

Oversea's means trouble a lot of the time. Be careful

He had to move to the UK with his family so he needs to sell the car quick..but if i give the deposit to Square Trade and get the car and i dont like it, get my money back..does that sound right? What other problems could i run into?

hehehhehe

Googled, and saw that the square trade thing is a common scam
http//forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=200082658&tstart=0&mod=1119539144949
(Google it yourself and you'll see a lot of info)

Like I said, Square trade (a legit company that takes cares of disputes on ebay and gives a seal for sellers) does not do escrow...

He's a scammer. Have fun with him (pretend you'll pay but ask tons of idiotic questions) and post your emails here.

Matt - don't fall for this. $4500 is not a small sum of money, and it seems a bit fishy to send you the car just to check it out.

Also, $4500 deposit for a $9100 car is too much. A deposit is usually 10%, not 50.

Finally - $9100 for a 2003 Evo 8 ?????

LOL, didn't know you found it on cars.com.

With all the info now, it does scream SCAM D

Haha Escrow sounds like the same thing..how come its better?

Matt8789

12-07-2005 13:32:23

Haha i emailed him back asking if we could do this Escrow and it said it was ok with him and said that "He knows the Square Trade is a legit company"

hehehhehe

12-07-2005 14:26:02

Escrow is not a name of a company, escrow is when a third party holds the cash for a transaction (look it up for better explanation), and Square Trade does not do this. He is telling you they do it in order to scam you. Ask him how you can get the money to Square Trade to their 'escrow service' (for fun, don't do it).

Matt8789

12-07-2005 14:29:43

Im asking him what the "little black rectangular box that is near the face gauges and above the steering wheel is" or in other words, the Turbo timer and he keeps avoiding the question.

hehehhehe

12-07-2005 14:36:43

Make up some reason to offer him a lot more money, like can he add some spoilers (or better yet, something you know he can't do) and crap like that to get him excited for nothing. I bet he'll say yes.

Matt8789

I've already found another EVO, but i got to drive to get it. So right now im just messing with this guy heheh )

He was probably going to send you a link to a fake escrow site. From there they can have all your info. That's what most of these overseas scammers are doing nowadays.

J4320

12-07-2005 15:58:55

Hmmm... Be careful there. Maybe if you could confirm that he's a scammer you could report him.

Matt8789

12-07-2005 16:38:33

He still hasnt responded to my email asking him what the little black thing (Turbo timer) over the steering wheel was..im guessing he doesnt know so he hasnt emailed me back yet.
