Hey, I'm still new and don't post much but I follow various threads. Sometimes I see someone suddenly banned and without an obvious sign to me, because I'm still new getting my feel for the place, it's puzzling.

Maybe the mods can create a banned sticky so when someone is banned for a blatant reason, it'll help the newer folks avoid the same mistakes. Or if it's someone trying to scam and creating a new name, it'll tie together why there's a sudden rash of bans on newbies. Something like

XXXuser - banned, known to be ABC123 and QRST555
XYZuser - banned for using referral link

I understand if the banned sticky thread is too much work or if ban reasons are private, but just a thought.

If you check a banned user's profile, there may or may not be a public reason associated with the ban. We have the ability to provide one, we just don't always feel it necessary to do so.

If you read the rules, and abide by them you won't have to worry about being banned.

That is almost a silly response and has very little to do with what she was asking...

She just wants to know why certain people were banned and their alias.

I have no opinion.

halfbreed - That's the thing, I've read the rules and lithinkli I get them, but I'll see someone with one post and they are banned. The post seems innocent enough, no referral link in it. It may not even be in the trading section. So I just wondered what on earth did they do.

In that case it may be someone who was previously banned trying to get in with another name, but being new it's hard to tell the history of certain posters.

So from my viewpoint (a newbie) it makes me a bit jittery to post something not explicitly stated in the rules or else it may get me banned too. Just like that "one post person" who is now banned after one post. Follow?

But FON summed it up so really, it's all good.

yeah people are bant for different reasons but usually if you are about to be bant you have been warned before so if you are ever in jeopardy of being bant you prolle will recieve a warning first

Not a horrible suggestion. Editing the users profile to include a few word explanation could also be done to help out newbies.

Keeping track of reasons like that is just too much work.

However, I have been tossing around the idea of adding a "ban" button to all posts. When clicked, the user is banned, and "[bf297ba2b1a]USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST[/bf297ba2b1a]" is added to the bottom of the post (a la somethingawful).

Shouldn't be too hard to implement...

Edit Compfreak, making intelligent, well written suggestions is not 'telling me how to run my forums'. I think most members here leave that up to you...

I like the "ban" button idea. It would get rid of a lot of "why did he get banned" posts.
