Just curious about what others think of some photography i did 2 summers ago.
(the quality has been severly diminished due to the scanner, the black shine thats in the prints does not seem to have scanned well and makes the pics look very dull < , also the white specs are from scanner not on orig photos)
Pic#1 "Curious About Suicide"

http/" alt=""/img183.echo.cx/img="183/6228/curiousaboutsuicide4si.jpg[" alt=""/imgb7e3ee7c3d]
Pic#2 "Damn Dirty Vette"
Note im very dissapointed as how this pic looked after scanning it, the shine and lighting/shading got really messed up and ust doesnt look 1/2 as good as the print does.

In my opinion...
Curious Suicide is a feable attempt to have a shocking photograph but ultimately resulted a photo with absolutely no meaning but leaves the impression the photographer is dimwitted but trying ever so hard to prove they are not.
Corvette is a picture of a dirty car. Something is either A) lost in the scan of the photo or more likely B) its just a picture of a dirty car. In either case, a dirty car is a dirty car is a dirty car....what else would you take away from it.
Both are lame.

Would it have mattered if it was a real gun or not. Crap is still crap even if it has a bow on it.

I dont really see what you're trying to accomplish with these... why would curious george want to shoot himself? hes a mult-millionaire for sure.
the car one isnt too good... poor model. nobody wants to see a dirty, car and NJ license plate (i see enough of those daily)
Im not going to say my opinion is that of a professional, but I have worked for a photo lab for years and know good shots when I see em.

Story behind both pics
Dirty Vette - the dirt on the car actually does not show up anywhere as drastically if you were to take the same photo with color film, the B&W just enhances each speck of dirt.
CuriousGeorge - the photo has absolutely no underlying meaning, infact its just supposed to be semi-humerous.
Both pics were taken for a summer photography class i had to take. And each were part of assignments where we had to include certain details into the photos.
Curious needed some sort of pattern (the bed sheet)
Vette needed to be of a car of some sort, i originally wanted the photo to capture the "mean" look of the front of the vette, but the dirt screwed that all up.

Thanks for you input, hence why i never took any follow-up classes to the Photography 101 )
also, in NJ front licences are mandatory and since the photo was for a class i didint wanna spend the 5min to unscrew my dad's plates, then 5min to find the cover for the licenceplate spot that came with the vetter originally.

i like the pic of the car, the tones are good, and its not technically B+W, its more sepia id say.
maybe if you resized the pictures it would be easier for people to give you an opinion as they dont have to keep scrolling back and forth.
i dont really like pics like the 1st one, just cos anyone can put a gun next to a stuffed toy, but the car one i really like the angle and how the fouc is right on the badge.
im assuming that you used a film camera and just scanned them?
which camera did you use?

yeah it was a really super old camera, my dads pentax he bought way back when hewas in highschool i beleive. Cost me 35$ just for the battery for the sucker, since the bat was a mercury batt or something that they havent made since forever.
for the class we couldnt use digital and wernt allowed to do any digital editing. All editing was done by hand in the darkroom.

also like i said before, quality and shine and tones were all VERY MUCH dulled and distorted by the scanner.

well considering how old the camera was the car pic turned out really good.
like i sid im not too keen on the monkey pic (sorry bball), and it does look like the scanner really fucked the quality up alot.

This one that i scanned for some reason the scanner let me save as a greyscale or color image, so i did both ...heres the differeneces. Both look very different from the orig. still <

I like the first picture of the bird a lot. I like the composition the way the lines between the pavers draws your eye in to the subject which is slightly off center. The extra space gives it weight, too bad it's a pretty lame species of bird. And I agree with theysayjump the sepia looks best
You should shoot the one of the girl (your sister I assume) again the lighting is great it reminds me of a movie head shots from the 30’s, just have her hold her head up. It would look more flattering if her head were not down and her eyes up. But I like all three of those that are grouped together. I love photos like the last one, some small obscure object close up. Nice composition again with that one.

oh...and the bird, well i only had the stock shit lense for the old pentax. I found the bird wayyy wayyy overheated and hungry/thirsty next to my pool. The poor thing was so worn out i could literally pick her up and move her around the way i wanted.
The pic was taken from the distance itlooks like in the pic, i did not zoom or anything.
after i took the pics, i gave the sucker some water, food, and let her chill out in some shade. She flew away like 2 hours later.
