so last Christmas, my fiancee bought me a $200 Coach purse. I returned it because
1) it was white leather and i cant keep white clean
2) i was afraid to accept such an expensive gift that I was sure i'd ruin and feel terrible about it. i even talked to the salesladies and no, there was no way to keep the white leather from being marred. i would just have to live with a pen-stained, $200 purse.

he was somewhat insulted and disappointed that i returned it, but i had to. i couldn't keep it. I felt bad because he was sure i would love it (which i did), and he'd worked so hard to pick out such a great gift. he was even ok with me exchanging it, but (to the saleslady's chagrin) i didnt like and didn't want any of the other ones available. and i just couldnt accept it as a gift.

now comes the dilemma.

i am working on freehandbags.com where there is a Coach purse available, but very different from the one he got me (this one is khaki canvas). it's really the only purse i want on the site, and i dont want to get a different one and/or sell it. i dont really have a problem with having this purse, because if it does get ruined, i didn't waste $200 on it. i may have wasted $30.

if you were the guy in this situation, and your gf came home with a Coach purse, despite the fact that she (basically) rejected the one you gave her for Christmas, would you be insulted or mad?

this has been bothering me for months.....as I want this purse but dont want to insult my dear fiancee.

thanks for your opinions.

lol, i agree with liquidskin.

For me I wouldnt care as long as you were happy with what you got. Its the thought that counts right?

i'm kind of thinking he wont care too much, especially since i accepted the $400 earrings that same Christmas, and his engagement proposal 2 weeks later. D

i could just get it, and when he sees it, ask him if he minds......
then if he does, i'll sell it.....

hehehhehe

I could say it wouldn't bother me, but somewhere, somehow, by just a tiny bit it wouldn't feel good. I bet he doesn't believe that you actually liked the white bag. Although I understand what your reasons are, I can understand his disappointment too as it takes some effort for a guy to pick a "girly" gift for a girl, you know? I bet he was crushed... Just make it up to him somehow (like with a free ipod heh heh).

lol i already gave him one from freeipods.com
now i'm working on phreeipods.com for myself.

i could have exchanged the white purse for a khaki canvas one, somewhat similar to the one on the free site, but like i said, the salesladies weren't too positive on how to keep them clean, and i just couldn't let him spend that much on a purse....

i think he would be a tiny bit disappointed/bothered if i came home with a 2nd Coach purse.....maybe i should look through the other ones available and make a different choice. too bad the Louis Vuitton one isnt on there anymore. even though i'm doing louisvuittonforfree, i doesn't hurt to have a 2nd!

That being said, if it's a nice bag that you like, you should keep it. I'd hope that he'd want you to as well, despite his defeat with the white bag.

If you explain why he probably won't care.

Well to go a bit off subject, I ordered a Coach bag from freehandbags & they sent me an email saying Coach doesn't have those handbags anymore & offered me a giftcard from Neiman Marcus or ashford.com

i would probably be just as happy with a giftcard, provided i could use it online.....

sending my info in for approval on freehandbags today! i looked through them and chose the Coach one again.

i told him a Coach bag was coming and he groaned and said he wasn't mad and said he thought it was funny.

i asked if he understood why i couldnt keep the one he gave me and he said "yeah i understand but i think you're crazy" (he tells me that all the time lol)

i saw a tinge of disappointment on his face and said i'd sell it on ebay if he wanted and that i didnt want him to be mad....again "no whatever, you're nuts"

i pointed out that i'd accepted his ring, to which he replied "you better have!" and proceeded to explain how guys worry about ring size and whatnot......

so i guess i'm keeping the purse thus far!
