It's been around for a some time now, I think. I got an invite for it a few months ago while looking for gmail invites. There's also a microsoft blog/community called Wallop that has a music sharing feature. If anyone wants an invite to them, PM me.

orkut, thefacebook, friendster, etc. are communities where you signup, add your friends, create groups, and keep in touch with your social network.
