I just got a 20GB iPod and I want to use it in my car, but I have no clue what I need to buy to do this. So if you can, could someone help me out by telling me what accessory I need to buy for my iPod, and maybe supply a link to the one you would recommend? It would be awesome to get this hooked up in my car, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can use an iTrip FM transmitter to play your iPod through the radio in your car. Here's a link to it http//store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=T7194LL/A . Hope this helps. )

Or you can use a tape and hook it into your earphone jack on your iPod and do it that way. I would think that'd e better quality?

Don't you need a cassette player in your car to do that?

i have a itrip and it works well and yes collateral is correct the tape adapter is better quality. Another option is if you have a aux input then you can run monster cable from the aux input to your ipod and run it that way this would be really good quality as well.

I have an iTrip... It drains the battery really fast. I play 5 songs and its dead. Well maybe its just my car.

Oh yeah, so you can get a different transmitter, which works for me, here http//www.kensington.com/html/5675.html I would try to find it on ebay first ;-)

i used to use the iTrip, but it just wouldnt work for me at all, and when it did, the quality was shite.

so i spent $20 on the belkin car cassette adapter, and it works great. the quality is good and you cant hear the sound of the tape "ticking over".

i would recommend buying the cassette adapter, unless you know how to do what stroid said.....from what ive heard, that way (stroids) is the way to get the best quality.

AUX IN is the way to go. I have it hooked up that way. $5 and u're done. fuck iTrip piece of shit (music quality).

I use aux in. You can't beat the quality.

But what kind of stereo do you have? Alot of the aftermarket companies sell ipod adapters that work with their head units. That allows you to control the ipod from the stereo controls.

Certain Clarion and Pioneer head units have an adapter available which connects directly to the dock connector allowing you to control the ipod with your stero remote , I think it charges it at the same time as well.

You can also look on Crutchfield because they have iPod interface adapters for your stock radio if you haven't changed it that will allow you to controll your iPod from you stock radio. http//www.crutchfield.com/S-BgoFM8uSxsm/cgi-bin/prodgroup.asp?g=227450&avf=N&nvpair=AG%5FType%7CFFiPod%5FAdapters

If you want to get an iTrip, don't. They're crap. Get the Belkin Tunebase FM. It's about twice the price, but it charges your iPod while you play it, and the reception is much better, plus it has its own display to change the FM frequencies...it's a pain in the ass to change it through the iPod.

The only downside to this is that it's for the mini...they don't yet have a model for the 20gb iPod.

i have my shuffle hooked up via headphone jack and an adapter specific for my car. the quality isn't so great and i have to turn up the shuffle volume all the way. but it was the cheapest way to do it, $80.

my fiancee bought an ipod interface for his pioneer headunit, which was $120. he can control the ipod through the radio and the quality is as if he were playing cds.

i would do it the same way except i dont want an aftermarket headunit, as it would look weird in my dash (i have a Beetle).

both were unbelieveably easy to install. easier than installing a new headunit. and that's pretty easy.

iTrip works well for me - it gets many bad reviews, but a lot of people are happy with it as well.

I have both a cassette adapter, and the iTrip - the adapter is better, but sometimes I don't want any wires hanging in my car at all.
