Death

I was wondering what everyone's belief is on what happens to the person "inner self" afterwards. I had my first really close relative die this week, so for the first time in my life I started to think about it. I have my feelings, but I was curious on the rest of you guys.
Reincarnation, heaven, ghostly spirit, nothing you just lay in your grave and are in a black world of nothing? Anything else you believe in?

When you're dead, you're done. I find it rather calming, as opposed to scary or worrisome.

I agree with Admin. When the body dies, there is no more.

MAKE A POLL D
Anyways I guess I believe in heaven or hell (hopefully that myspace trick doesnt count too much against me lol ) The thought of your life being totally gone when you die is far too scary/depressing.....
God is all forgiving...
Meaning there is no such thing as hell.
Glass is 3/4 full with my outlook on the whole situation )

Hmm, I certainly don't believe in heaven or hell. I also don't believe you are completely gone either. I admit I have no idea what happens to your mental existence after death. Personally I'll be backing up my brain on a supercomputer in 50 years. We'll have the technology... we can rebuild me.

that last sentence is a scary thought lol jk.
i believe that when you die, your spirit, entity, energy whatever you wanna call it stays on behind. physically (depending on your choice of cremation or burial) your just a shell......there is nothing left of you but a shell......i believe in ghosts, spirits, energy's etc cos ive had too much stuff happen to me to not believe in them (i used to be a ghost skeptic). so i believe that when i die, my body will remain, but my spirit etc will live on.
sorry to hear about your loss bball'. i know what its like as i lost my mum at the start of the year (

When you die, your program switches off.
Just like all the stuff that happened before you were born, all the stuff after you are dead will happen without you. It's kinda nice actually once you know that what you want in life has been fulfilled and the people you love are going to do fine without you.
Once you've done your part what's the point of being around anyway - in heaven or in hell.
I mean, heaven and hell are nice concepts for some sort of master all-seeing judicial system so people behave themselves but it's kinda pointless in moderm society.

I don't know. What would be the point of resurrecting an antiquated brain. The world needs fresh ideas, new perspectives not old set in the ways brain. It'd be kinda miserable; be like a mental geriatric.

Actually, I've read some articles lately about how they will have brains powerful enough to store your memory and your thought process and if the computer is running it will allow your thought process to continue. But I guess that wouldn't be us thinking... It's such a weird issue. Personally I don't think it matters either way, I don't believe in torment after death so there is nothing to fear from it.
BTW, sorry about your loss BBall (

Haha. It's like the Star Trek transporters.
From what I read somewhere, if such transport were to work, then what would happen is that you would be destroyed at 1 point and re-created at another point.
So, you would die at transport but an exact copy of you will start existing at another point.
Would that still be you?

Admin, I agree heavily with you on that.
Fearing death is fighting against the inevitable. It is fate, find peace within your heart and be "one with your final destination" and you will live a more fullfilling(sp?) life.

No one can say what really happens after death because those who experience it are either dead in the ground, in Heaven, or their metaphysical consciousness doesn't make the connection with the new body. So if we don't know, everything must be in faith.
I think that what you believe is what happens - if you have faith that once you die, you'll ascend to the pearly white gates of Heaven, with unlimited lemonaide and sand beaches, that's what happens.
I was brought up with Buddhist, Hindu, and Baptist teachings
Personally, I belong to no church - nor do I have man-made ritualistic ideas about life. Every religion has its Saint Christ, Buddha, Krishna... They are all the same conciousness - examples for us to follow.
I think that when you die, the spirit leaves the physical body, and enters a state where the soul is at peace with this conciousness. From here, you either stay there eternally, or you come back to this world. Can one really learn all necessary life lessons, and contribute all there is to contribute in 80 years?
I suggest you read this book [u4081b0b003]Autobiography of a Yogi[/u4081b0b003] - Paramahansa Yogananda

I am deeply sorry to hear about your loss.
I believe in Heaven and Hell. I believe you go to Heaven if you believe that Christ is your saviour.
In the last year and a half, I have lost My great uncle and my grandfather (same day, funerals were the same weekend), my cousin (she was 23, and left a little boy behind) and my sister-in-law (she just passed away on June 4, 2005 leaving my brother a widower at 28, with their three children).
I've been to too many funerals. cry

I'd probably say my belief is the closest to Admin's. Not really sure how to say it (especially since I don't have concrete beliefs on death), but I think of it more like... the "soul" simply transitions forms into something new. The new form doesn't have sentience, but the "soul" hasn't been destroyed. (Well, I don't believe in the concept of souls, but it's still a useful word.)

God does exist! Think about that for a minute.
Also, when and how did the UNIVERSE begin? I believe there is something or someone bigger than us out there, and I believe every person on earth can sense it whether they know about God or not.
