I wanna buy a tivo with lifetime service, and upgrade it. I also have directv service, do I need the special directv tivo service? Is it even possible to get the lifetime deal with directv, or only the monthly service? If I bought a directv tivo, would I be able to upgrade it? If I bought a regular one, would I be able to use it with directv? ?

I know thats a lot of questions, but any help would be appreciated.

DirectTivo is the best Tivo available. I'm not sure if you can still buy them directly from Tivo because they are phasing them out, but you should be able to at least pick up a box on ebay.

Unlike regular Tivo it's dual tuner so you can record 2 things at the same time, or watch a live program while recording something.

It's also cheaper than regular Tivo (12.95 a month) it only costs 5.00 a month for all of your directtivo boxes.

In other words, you can't beat this deal. Don't buy a regular one, but the directtivo box.

so if i have 3 TVs, I can buy 3 boxes, and only pay 5 p/month? Does directv have one of the lifetime deals? Do I have to pay extra for the dual tuner thingy, or can I just hook up the receiver that they gave me, and it'll work?

$5 for 1 Tivo box, not for all 3

DirectTV charges 5.00 per household for Tivo Service
DirectTV charges 5.00 per EXTRA DirectTV box, no matter what kind of box it is.

So if you had 3 Tivo boxes it would cost you 15.00 on top of your regular service.

No lifetime deals. You'll need a DualLNB satellite with 2 coax cable running to each room for Dual Tuner, sometimes they offer free install on that if you can't do it yourself.

I already have 3 receivers, so it would be the 15 I pay p/month +5 for tivo? Even if I buy 3 directivo receivers? Do you guys think that even though I have already been a customer for four years, they will retrofit my equiptment to make this work?

You could buy a standalone receiver, and hook it up to 1 tv and get the lifetime subscribtion. Then you would just continue to use your regular satelite receiver, although I do agree....the directivo is very nice...got one of each in my house....the directivo costs $5 extra per month b/c you have the dual tuner and it is like having two receivers on 1 tv, whereas with a standalone tivo you are paying for the guide data. Do you actually want the a tivo receiver hooked up to each of the 3 tv's??? Doesn't seem too practical to me, but it's an option I suppose.

also, take into consideration that the directivo receivers, i think mine was the r10, do not have all the features available of a normal tivo. namely, the directivo has two usb ports, but they are unusable for any functions, as directv does not have provide the same software/firmware as a standalone tivo. this means you cannot use a wireless usb adapter to update your tivo programming/firmware over your home network, and the ability to transfer your tivo programming to your pc, (dont remember what that is called) is non existent too.
