out of curiosity, does anyone else run around and unplug stuff when its storming?

my house was struck by lightneing a few months ago just as my wife was reaching to unplug the air conditioner.

I'm frickin obsessed with em. I'm a meteorology major. Everytime it storms I go outside and watch it, lightning and all. We've only had one good one this year. Everything keeps missing us in St. Louis.

Atlanta, isn't that just a Delta hub? -)

I've never been myself, I bet it's a cool place.

I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in TX. I've never lived anywhere else but in a little over a month I'm packing up and moving to Phoenix.

I believe him. Georgetown is in the middle of D.C. but there are places that look just like that. Same goes for Chicago. Rich bastards in both of them.

[quote0ce2e0df6e="theysayjump"]sweet! i like baltimore at night (the way it looks...or at least the harbour) D[/quote0ce2e0df6e]

Yeah, I guess it's kinda pretty at night. The actually bay, however, is in pretty bad shape. Basically, runoff from farms and such has created a lot of sediment to cloud the bay. The oysters would normally filter this out but they are dying of disease, pollution, and over fishing (can you call it fishing?). Because of that, plants can't grow on the floor that would normally provide habitat for Maryland blue crabs. The crabs are overharvested, as well. All of those factors, along with poor management and little funding from the state and federal gov't, have caused the crab and oyster populations to drop to dangerously low levels. The two bay species that Maryland is known for are basically going to go extinct unless something drastic is done.

shit i didnt know that!

i had heard only good things about baltimore and its seafood. thats a shame....are there any groups or sites that are doing anything about it?

nicd.01

10-06-2005 00:35:55

Yeah, a lot of environmental groups actually care. The people in charge who can do anything, however, aren't doing enough. It's really depressing that the Maryland crab (one of the only things MD is known for) is in danger of extinction.

theysayjump

10-06-2005 00:41:03

yeah that is sad.....im gonna see if there are petitions or something online to sign up for.

Lots of storms here (Miami). They give me a weird sense of security for some reason. I'm usually online too while they are going on (UPS), so it's nice to be able to type to someone online while the rest of your house has no power P
