So I returned a few games to gamestop today for some trade in cash and bought Halo 2 along with the the Hi Def AV Pack. I've got it in 480p widescreen mode and 5.1 surround on my new 30" widescreen TV.

All I can say is, badass. So, how many haloers do we have here.

Lots of em would be my guess....I am not too hardcore but I like the games...kinda bugs me how they left the end of the 2nd game though, and it's pretty clear that halo 3 will be out for xbox 360, so i better get going on my referals or i'm never going to play it....

How's the Philips HDTV? I almost bought the 8402 refurb for under $500 but decided to wait for the Sanyo

It's absolutely amazing for the price. 2 sets of component inputs so I can hook up my dvd player and my xbox. The screen is huge sitting 6 feet away from it. It's the perfect size for my living room. I have owned a 43 27" tv and this looks so much bigger. The only complaint I have with it is that the remote doesn't include options for switching directly between inputs. I think this should be standard on all TVs. I have a harmony remote and it hampers this, but it's nothing new to me.

Also, XBOX360 all games will be 720p, 1080i capable muhaha.

I hope XBOX360 plays CD-R's and DVD+-R's because if it doesn't than I will have to find some way to hook up another set of component inputs to my TV when I get my HD/DVR Cable box when I move. Or it must just be time to upgrade my receiver and get one that switches.

quote from xbox.com

[quotecf5264f531][bcf5264f531]What’s with all those freakin’ numbers? What do they mean?[/bcf5264f531]
Yeah, we hear you … 480-something, 720-whatever, 1080-my head hurts. Here it is, straight up

Standard Analog TV is 480i, which means 480 visible lines of resolution in an interlaced format. Consider this “old school.”

Digital TV comes in many different forms, the most common being 480p, 720p, and 1080i. These numbers basically refer to the visible lines of resolution. The higher the better. The “p” in 480p and 720p stands for progressive, meaning that instead of displaying in interlaced format (half the picture in one fraction of a second, the other half in the next fraction of a second) the entire image is displayed within that first fraction of a second. The end result You see the picture twice as often in progressive scan, making the picture amazingly clear.

Now, 1080i is a bit of an oddball, in that it is interlaced, but the resolution is about twice as high as 720p. Games and fast action are lots better on progressive-scan displays, so if you want the best quality gaming experience, you’ll want to get a 720p TV. Most gamers play about six feet from a 30-inch TV, and at that viewing angle, they wouldn’t able to see a difference between 720p and 1080i. But, hey, go nuts if you want to!

Note While 480p is digital television, it is not high-definition digital television. This is reserved for the true high resolutions of 720p and 1080i.[/quotecf5264f531]

Oh and, DVD Resolution is 720 x 480 which is already great. (480p)

HDTV at 720p is 1280x720 and displays all lines in one electron burst. You can probably check out HDTV clarity at 720p by going to a retailer like Walmart or Best Buy and looking at their HDTVs.

Sweet.

When it comes out, xbox360 might be the best thing for HDTV video playback (well, besides HTPCs and DVRs) until some kind of hdtv media standards come around.

You'll have to let me know if the xbox (original one) can play 720p video smoothly on your HDTV through xbmc if you ever try it. I know it can't handle 1080i because its CPU isn't fast enough.

720p is better than 1080i anyways. Even though most people can't tell it, interlaced TV isn't as smooth as progressive scan because it's really only showing 540 lines at a time while 720p shows all 720.

I thought Halo2 would be 720p capable but I was wrong, I'll definately rent tony hawk or something so I can try it out in all it's glory.

I dunno if it's just me, but Halo was ok, but Halo 2 wasn't all that great. I am more of a hardcore gamer and I can't stand Console FPSs. So I am sticking to Quake III mrgreen

I agree, it wasn't that big, BUT it's cool

I think that Counter Strike for Xbox is way better than Halo 2

Why?

Counter Strike for Xbox was ands till the best (for me) 2 years ago Xbox Live was full of people playing this game, do you realize how hard is to play this game becuase you don't have a mouth, Man I remember that I played for about 17 hours everyday.

The game is awesome, I think that is the best shooter game for xbox

There must be a Counter Strike 2 for Xbox 360, if they don't then I will not buy it
