To get the estimated date of purchase, go here
http//www.apple.com/support/
and towards the bottom on the right, there is a box that says 'About your Apple product' put in your serial # there, and it will tell you the purchase date and warranty status.
If you fall within Apple's range for getting the Tiger Upgrade, go here
http//www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/
go there, and then under the Hardware Up To Date, click on US Systems.
It will have you login/create an apple id. After that, it will ask you to qualify your system by giving the model, serial, date of purchase, place of purchase, and City.
I did April 27, 2005 (thats's what the estimated date of purchase was from apple according to their records) , and I put in Efulfillment for the place of purchase, and for the City, I used the city that they shipped from (it was on my DHL tracking and I don't remember it). Well, I did all of that, it qualified it, and I paid $9.99 + Tax, and they mailed me a copy of Tiger.
Hope this helps everyone!

I think you can return it to an 'APPLE' store for store credit, and hey, maybe even Best Buy or somewhere like that. I would say it would depend on who you get at the counter, but for a $599 item, they are going to push store credit, especially without a receipt.

This sucks, I my date of purchase is Feb 28th, 2005, so it's out of their range of acceptable dates for the upgrade (
I need to get someone else's serial # so I can purchase Tiger for $9.99
Any takers? )

If would have to be someone that hasn't already 'Qualified' and submitted for the upgrade.
I tried to requalify my system just to see what it would say, and it comes back with an error saying that serial # was already used.
Maybe someone that has a system that has Tiger already on it would be willing to help you out...
Or, you could just buy it with an educational discount for $69.00.
