Along with my brother and 864 other musicians who made it possible. We participated in Echotaps, http//www.echotaps.org/
As you all know, we are losing our service men and women daily in Iraq and Afganistan along with the Vets from WWII, Korea and Vietnam. These Vets are passing away at a rate of 1,800 per day and are not receiving the military honors they truly deserve. There aren't enough buglers/trumpet players to play live renditions of taps at these services, and there are too many resorting to digital bugals or recordings of taps.
We joined with Echotaps to help honor and remember those who gave the last full measure. We streched a line of 866 musicians from Elmira NY to Bath NY between 2 national cemetaries and played a cascading rendition of taps. http//www.24notes.org/BuglerNews_Articles/Articles_Pages/Echo_Taps.html There are a few write-ups on the event, and if you click the link at the bottom, there are 2 videos from news reports from the area. Being a Vet myself I felt it was my duty to honor these brave men and women. We drove 3 1/2 hours to Bath NY to participate, however our journey was short in comparision to some. There were people there from 30 different states, including California and Arizona. It was a truly amazing event which was concluded with a mass playing of taps. Can you imagine the sound of 866 people playing it together? I can tell you it gave me goose bumps and brought tears to many peoples eyes.
I have since volunteered myself to all of the local funeral homes to play taps for any service member that passes on. Also I'm workin on starting a volunteer organization to ensure that every service member recieves the honor and respect they deserve for giving us what we have today.
Tomorrow for memorial day I am going to all the local cemetaries and playing taps for all the Vets who have passed on. For those of you who also play trumpet or bugal I ask that if you can, do the same and help me honor our Vets.

<--- From Syracuse, NY...heard nothing about it, but congratulations! It sounds like you've got a good heart in ya over there. My family has been associated with the military for decades (my generation is the first to go to college rather than some branch of the military)...off hand, on the Syracuse War Memorial my father, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather are listed. My cousin is a master sergeant in the air force, and another one of my uncles is a retired marine.
