stackmjwiz's list is nothing but industry rappers...I thought this thread was for alternative/[ie12d53c8c3]underground[/ie12d53c8c3] hiphop.

And, it just wouldn't be right if I didn't add a few artists

Sammy G (local - Can be found on Tombraiders Mixtape Volume 1)
Wicked
OoWop
Gym Class Heroes (local - Released Freshman album "The Papercut Chronicles" - not hiphop, but very good)

That's what I was thinking. I'm not too familiar with underground hiphop, but underground would mean that they aren't all in MTV and making bubblegum songs like Kanye West.

From the previous lists, I listen to

Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Immortal Technique
Bone Thugs and Harmony
a little bit of Jedi Mind Tricks

And some of the mainstream stuff isn't bad either. From that category, I like Nas and Tupac, and I even think Kanye West is pretty good.

Oh, and I also listen to Alicia Keys )

I hate most hip hop, though I listen to

Aesop Rock
Jedi Mind Tricks
RJD2
MC Chris (come on, how could you not??)

I live close to NYC (30 mins or so), so my friends always show me their albums they get in the city. I've taken a particular liking to Aesop.

Yeah, its very fast and poetic. You have to read his lyrics afterward and study them to get what hes saying.

MC Chris has a pretty annoying voice. heh.

yeah from what ive heard of his (aesop) his lyrics do actually seem to mean something......just pretty quick for my ears to actually take most of them in....just his voice though.....

cool to see so many replies when i logged in this morning! Besides the underground stuff I can't get enough of Nas's stuff along with common and other mainstream cats too. My list was one I made off my ipod last year so some of the guys i don't listen to anymore, others arn't even on there

edit anyone heard of One.Be.Lo? (aka One man Army aka Binary Star) i only ask because he's local and pretty well known on the underground scene
