Purchased: Logitech Z-5500 Speakers

Mmmm Just bought em last night online. Logitechs 5.1 Surround Sound Z-5500 speakers. $270 shipped DHL. Retailed at $400. Should be here Wendsday they say. Will take pictures when i get em and set em up. 8 refs. always seemed a little high on Freetechshop.com. Hopefully they are all that they claim to be )

I have the model those replaced, don't remember the model #, but they're hot, the sub can easily shake the walls, and the surrounds are really nice. I hooked em up to my PS2 with an optical cable, and my comp with the direct 5.1 cable, and they work great. dude, those speakers fucking ROCK. they're the best 5.1 u can get (maybe with the exception of the older z680 i think, which also blows my mind). Having said that, my setup will beat yours.
I got a 7.2, a combined Logitech Z2200 (2.1 200W) + Creative Megaworks 650 (5.1 550W). The systems is hooked up correctly, so it's not a fake 7.2. The Z2200 are 2 front speakers + sub, the rest is 1 center chan, 2 side, and 2 rear + another sub. That combo is a murder! I have to turn off the bass on both speakers + turn down the settings on winamp or else the bass is too strong.

The z5500 are good speakers only in terms of boomy inaccurate bass. When presented with sound levels around 50Hz they have alot of power, but when being compared to the klipsch promedia ultra 5.1 they are weak. The klipsch's sub is rated near HT quality. When being compared with the z5500 side by side at around 25-30Hz the logitech z5500's sub loses all power while the promedia ultra is still able to produce those subsonic impact sound. Also if you take a look at the satillite design of the z5500 you can tell its extreamly lacking. Most higher end speakers impliment a tweeter to produce those higher frequency sounds, logitech has failed to add that as a feature, which in turn would make you miss out the high pitched sounds. The creative Gigaworks would win the prize for being the best musical speakers. The Ultras would be rated at being the best all around speakers. If you can deny shipment that would be my suggestion, but if not try to return them and get the ultras off of dell. I personally own the Ultras and they blow other speaker systems away, and thats comming from someone that has owned all brands of speakers. I know the z5300 is not the same as the z5500 but they are similar in multiple ways, i went into Best Buy to hear the speakers on a side by side comparsion with the ultras. What i would have to say is that the z5300 had a lot of boomy bass (if you like it its ok i guess) but the satillites were very plain and dry in terms of their sounds. They had no volume (not power, 3d'ness) to them, and the sound was just to plain. Horrible for music.

Midiland 4.1--->Boston Acoustics BA4800---->Logitech z640 5.1----->Creative Megaworks 550D----->Promedia Ultra 5.1

Also it is recommend that you use a good soundcard or else the speakers are going to waste.

And Archon your full of crap, 7.2 is gimmick, the additional sub may help a bit but the added satillites are worthless, hardly anything supports 7.1. CMSS only duplicates frequencys and doesnt help it in any aspects.


Conclusion?
The logitech z5500 is nothing compared to producers such as cambride soundworks and klipsch. In every aspect such as human ear test or even on graph paper the klipsch/creative speakers OWN the z5500.

It seems like kids these days will spend insane amounts of money on the muddiest fucking bass and keep stock satellites/6x9's/whatevers that murder the interesting parts of music.

Yea your comment would be in regards to bose. But klipsch is different, if you take a look at pricing the promedia ultra can be at times cheaper then the z5500, you just gotta know how to use online coupons and where to go.

They sound great, i mean what else is there to say about them? Slight improvement over the megaworks 550D in terms of deep bass and nice highs. But the megaworks will alawys be a speakers i will miss.

Klipsch are pretty decent for the price. At the end of the day, it's what sounds good to you that matters.

I only have two suggestions
-Don't ever buy anything bose. Ever.
-Listen! Go to a store that has speaker displays and compare sets side by side. Bring your own CD in a CD player (preferably linotli mp3 sourced) and plug that shit in yourself if you can. Sound is 100% subjective. If you think it sounds good, then it's a good set of speakers.

Just a note Admin - usually speakers in the stores sound different from where you actually install them, so best bet is - try them at home, where you will most likely listen to it )

Help a bit? U've gotta come to my house and check out both ON, then Z2200 alone and Cambridge SounWorks 650 alone. They complement each other VERY well. And yah, i have an 8 channel sound card, so it's a 7.1 + extra sub. True, the sound doesn't get encoded in 7.1 usually but it's infinitely better than either one on its own. I wish u could just hear it...

my 1 5.1 system could outperform it in all aspects, including bass. Even the S700 could outperform your set up. As you may have read i have owned the 550D which are virtually the same as your 6.1. And logitech, i've said enough about them as the z2200 are inferior to the z5500 which you've seen my opinion on. And if you really like bass add in a SWS sub and your good.

EDIT Both systems do not intergrate a tweeter, so your lacking on the highs. The mids are well covered by the megaworks

and do those 95% of the companys know what they are talking about? Many of them are just basising it on the bass amount, now clarity and such.

My computers old, to me, but not techincally that old. Im thinking about buying a new sound card and the CREATIVE Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS 8 (7.1) looked nice. Any other suggestions? Im not looking for SPECTACULAR here..something that will work good with the speakers.
