If you like weird stuff, check out

Along 1-70 in Illinois, you can check out the world's largest ketchup bottle or the giant cross in Effingham. Further south in Illinois, you can check out the hometown of Superman in Metropolis, along with the grave of the Birdman of Alcatraz.

Which Interstate will you be taking? I believe 70 runs through Denver, thats a great city, take it further west and you'll go past Vail which is cool at this time of the year because the mountains are beautiful. Then you'll get into Utah and 70 stops so you'll want to go north to salt lake city so you can get on 80. Make sure you at least drive up to the lake, maybe take a glass bottom boat if you're into that. 80 will take you through Reno which is cool, but you could always go to Lake Tahoe which is nearby.

Or if you want to go further north and take 90 all the way, there is a great drive from Boise to Seattle, then you could head south from Seattle into California, another great drive. I believe 90 goes through South Dakota as well and you might be able to see Mt Rushmore and the Crazy Horse monument.

Only been through the western US so thats all I can help you with.

What state/general area are you from? I'm about a mile from 1-70 in Illinois, roughly an hour east of St. Louis.

Eh, Pennsylvania can't be worse to drive through than West Texas. At least there are amish people in Pennsylvania. West Texas has dust, dirt and armadillos.
