I got my Free PSP from Gratis last week. The problem is, there was a short in the PSP or battery for an unknown reason and Sony said they would charge me $150 to fix the PSP without a receipt!!! All they need is a photocopy of the receipt. If you send me one, you still could use it for your warranty as the warranty is done by serial number and the receipt is only used to check that you purchased the PSP. So if anyone out there would be nice enough to send me a photocopy of their receipt it would be appreciated. If there is some info you don't want me to have you could black it out. Someone please help me out. I don't want to have to buy a new psp.
My email= is email=kutibah1@pacbell.netkutibah1@pacbell.net is email=kutibah1@pacbell.netkutibah1@pacbell.net/email
I may offer some money via paypal if someone could help me out. Thanks.

Try returning it to compusa. Tell them you want store credit. Then go back in a week later and get another PSP.

It's an opened PSP. They would charge restocking fee wouldn't they?

I don't think they would, but I'm not sure. Call them up and ask. Say "I bought a psp the other day and it's not as cool as I thought it would be, I lost my receipt, can I still get store credit?"
Try it, they might still be open depending on where you live.

Well, usually stores try out the item to make sure it works. He would plug in the adaptor and find out it won't work. So really, all I need is a receipt. Anyone? Please help me!

It worked for a week. Then there was some sort of short in the system that recharges it. I contacted them if they could provide me with a receipt but I doubt it because I don't think customer support has access to billing. I also contacted efulfillment. I doubt I'd get a reply from either.

Agreed, but first I'd try buying one and returning the old one. It's much easier to let the store deal with damaged merchandise than trying to deal with it yourself. If you send it in to be fixed it could take a long time. They are probably backed up as well because of all the bad LCDs.

Can anyone tell me of a store that will return it with the lowest restocking fee?

Walmart probably won't even charge a restocking fee.

restocking fees are typically on big items not small items i doubt one will be charged at most stores

Just a warning... I tried retuning my unopened Free PSP --- since I had one from launch --- to three different places. All 3 turned me down for not having a receipt.
Walmart --- has a new tracking system that shows whether a unique serial number was sold by a Walmart store. Obviously mine wasn't so they turned me away.
Best Buy --- told me they can't take it back without a recipt... no exceptions.
Circuit City --- tried to look up the receipt in their system. I gave them all kinds of contact info to try hoping they would eventually give up & give in. No luck! They said everything over $100 requires a receipt.
In all 3 situations, I told them I had received it as a gift and already had one. I just wanted store credit so that I could buy games. The thing that drove me crazy was that all 3 stores were sold out. They could have put it on the sheld and resold in 15 minutes. One guy even offered to buy it from me at Best Buy, but he undercut me by waaaay too much. I guess I'll be hitting eBay. Brand new PSP --- never even taken out of the box --- if anyone is interested. 8)
Also, I showed my receipt for the original one purchased at Best Buy and they wouldn't take it. All of the PSPs are sold with their Serial Number listed on the recipt. You can't return one serial number with the SKU for another one. At least that's what I was told.
hehehhehe

Would a Paypal receipt work in the case where you want Sony to repair it? Can't you just say you bought it off ebay and here's my Paypal receipt?

i don't think warranties are transferable. warranties are for the original owner only

use brasso!

Cause when I called in for support they took the date I purchased the PSP which I told them was 4/27/05 and registered it with the serial number of it.
And please stop repeating brasso lol.

Sony got the PSP today. They said they're sending me a new battery from their faculty, and they're going to forward the PSP to another faculty in which they're sending me a new PSP. Does that mean I get another value pack? Or will it just be a PSP? I hope it's dead pixel free.
