Ebay Referrals

I was wondering how much success people were having using ebay to post information only auctions for gratis, offercentric,...,etc. I know in a previous post some people commented on how many yellows they got, but I was hoping to hear from some people that got enough greens from ebay on 10+ referral offers. Thanks in advance for the input.

yea im actually wondering the same thing. anyone here know if ebay allows this? and how is it actually done?

musicdriven

I can tell you how it's actually done. You just sign up for an auction post for whatever period of time you want, and make sure to make it clear not to bid on the item, and say it's for information purposes only.

I have read that people have had their pages taken down after a few days, but only a couple dolloars down the drain.

they dont allow it but there seem to be a hell of a lot of those auctions on ebay.......i tried it, failed miserably and they e-mailed me after i cancelled it saying i was to make sure i knew their TOS cos they think i may have broken the rules......try it but it will be at your own risk.

They dont allow to put refferal links in their auctions or just information. They usually take down the auctions with refferal links and end up cancelling your account. Some auctions just get by. I have completed 2 websites using ebay. Freeipods and Freehandbags. I have some greens for psp's but dont knwo if they will turn green.

x323smostwantedx, how long did it take you to complete freeipods.com and freehandbags.com on ebay? i'm trying to decide if my current referrals method should suffice, or if ebay will yield better results.

i've been able to complete freefender.com, freeipods.com, freeflatscreens.com, and almost mp3players4free.com using my method now, but always looking for better ways.

Now, its harder to get people to sign up. I did freeipods a while back and it took me like 1 week and a half. Freehandbags like 2 weeks. Getting people to sign up was pretty easy because not many people were signed up to these websites. I have tried getting refferals for mp3playersforfree and its difficult, ive gotten 2 green and many yellow.

If you do this method, do the sites that not many people have and be careful of what u write in ur auctions because they will cancel ur auctions. I have had my account suspended a couple of times, as a matter of fact, its suspended right now. Good Luck. Whats you current refferal method?? PM me if u dont want nobody to know.

what do u have to put in order to not be suspended?

Dont just put your refferal link in the description, try to disguise it by putting spaces between each letter or whatever.

Havent tried it, but they warn you, after they cancel about 4 auctions, then they will suspend your account for a while.

Suspend it for how long?

PodTopia

01-05-2005 14:13:21

2 months, it happened to me. I posted like 2 auctions, didn't finish anything, and I got suspended. You don't realize how much you need eBay until yo udon't have it. And think about it. I was looking to buy a 60GB iPod photo on eBay the other day (I did buy one), but looking for one was such a pain because of all the free stuff postings. It's bad for eBay.

x323smostwantedx

01-05-2005 14:15:10

Yeah, they suspended mine for 2 months then they gave it back and now it got suspended again for "less than 30 days". I dont know when theyll give it back.

You do realize that a LOT of those accounts get reported for spamming by eBay, don't you?

LizM

01-05-2005 14:23:12

Also keep in mind that by just putting your ref link out there, you are opening yourself up to anyone who wants to report you to Gratis/OC/etc. for referral spam. Whether it's someone who works at eBay, or someone who was legitimately shopping for an item, saw a listing that looked promising, then found out it was "for information only" and gets pissed off. They have your info right there. All they have to do is report you. These kinds of auctions are definitely against eBay's TOS, and I wouldn't be surprised if they themselves start reporting people who put up those kinds of auctions. Like PodTopia said, it's bad for eBay. It clogs up the whole system.

x323smostwantedx

01-05-2005 14:25:29

If they do report you, they will tell you until you finish your refs and ask for approval, right?

dudeextrem2000

01-05-2005 14:28:24

but you could always say that some 1 had ur link and went wild trying to get you in trouble

i posted my link on ebay ads, while paying 60 cents to post the ad on ebay.

ebay continuously deleted my ads and i was finally put on a 30 day suspension. i've since been let back onto ebay and i wont abuse it anymore. i value the marketplace too much.

if you put your referral links on ebay, be sure and actually sell something. dont just offer it up for free or you'll get suspended/kicked off.

i DID get my digital camera free from my greens on ebay, but it took longer than trading greens takes here (generally. even though i have been waiting for months for some yellows to turn green from here.)

i dont recommend using ebay unless you actually follow the rules, which would mean selling your referral link (for a penny or whatever) and you'll get a LOT of disgruntled email about "being a scammer." even though all my information was up for grabs FREE on my ad, i still got some emails from mad people.

people also will bid on your ads, even though the information is free in them. mostly people who've never used ebay before.

I actually did that on an auction for a dell coupon (don't laugh.. I got $30 for a piece of junk mail D) and I got a strange email from ebay. Something along the lines of "Even though your auction has already ended, we want you to know that it violated our TOS..." The strange part is that my auction still had like 5 days left. ebay never did anything else, just that one odd warning.

free site + ebay = bad.
i do not advocate doing this; i'm just saying how.

1. you make an auction and make sure you have it so that only "preapproved bidders" can bid on in, while you put no one on the list.

2. you use one of the features that puts your auction at the top of all of the listings, though it costs $20 to do.

3. your auction gets cancelled after a couple of days, and they do NOT charge you anything for creating the auction. if done right, you can get up to 2000 views on the auction.

4. after you do this a couple of times, your account is suspended for 30 days. if you try to make another account, they suspend you indefinately.

this does work, as i've done it before. i got 10 refs for freeipod.com and 18 for photoipods.com

don't do it, however, becuase it violates ebay's rules and your account will be suspended.

It's probably unfair to say ebay is cracking down.

It's probably people who already have freebie refs on ebay reporting other people who try to put it up. I doubt ebay has anyone of their own people looking for these refs.

But, they do have a policy where they can cancel your auction without any warning or even without any cause if they want to.

Matt8789

02-05-2005 18:26:05

You could probably just make another ghetto account and once it gets suspended dont ever use it again.

no, you're wrong.
i got automated emails every day about my "illegal" ebay ads.
they said which ad was wrong, WHY it was wrong, that they'd deleted the ad, and that it was a warning that could result in suspension.

i was then suspended for 30 days.

perhaps they dont have actual people policing ebay ads, but there are certain words and phrases that trigger a red flag, which in turn can get the ebay user suspended, kicked off, etc.

for example, i couldn't put my referral link on the ads, i had to use tinyurl.com because the referral link was already "contaminated" and ebay recognized it as "illegal"

another example of a trigger word is "warranty." even if you post an ad saying "item is sold without warranty," towards the end of creating your ad, there will be a screen that shows you ebay's policies regarding the legitimacy of warranties.

FYI.

Hate to bust your bubble, but you are also wrong. While eBay most certainly does have automated "safeguards" in place (which [i03d72d079c]are[/i03d72d079c] based on keywords), there is an entire community (which I don't believe are compensated by eBay) that spend hours wading through auctions which violate eBay's Terms. FYI.

^^ I stand corrected.

[quote0c6a282ea4="Matt8789"]You could probably just make another ghetto account and once it gets suspended dont ever use it again.[/quote0c6a282ea4]

if ebay bans you from ebay, they do so by IP address and in order to buy and sell, your best bet is a credit card or checking account.

you'd have to go to a completely different physical location, use a completely different credit and/or bank account, with completely different names and addresses.

when i was suspended from ebay, they warned me not to try creating a new account, which would result in my being banned, instead of a 30-day suspension, which has since been lifted, thankthegods.

i value ebay too much to mess with it anymore.
