Anyone know any GOOD car CD recievers that you can hook an iPod up to and doesnt eff up the sound quality. I saw the one on AutoTech4free.com but dont know how the "adapter" that it comes with works..or the whole idea at that.

Alpine have integrated the iPod pretty well...other than that, you can look into the iCruze

Heh, Alpine seems to be tops in sales, and the iCruze is good too. Pioneer just released a unit, although my favorite is the multi-thousand dollar (lol, I don't know the price) Clarion in-dash unit that even has a touch screen "iPod" that controls your own.

get a decent pioneer headunit on ebay for <100 that is cd changer ready and has an IP-bus on the back of the unit, then find a IP-BUS-->RCA cable and then a RCA-->headphone cable, wire it under your center console up to the storage area between the front seats. Thats kinda what i did, works great and you have perfect sound unlike FM transmitters.

But you can't control the interface through your headunit if you do it this way, aux in is available for most aftermarket receivers not just pioneer. Some even have it built in so you don't need an adapter. My Sony did.

I was just reading about that..i have a Pioneer DEH-P4600MP but it doesnt have that IP-bus..but 4 RCA outputs (2 front 2 rear)..could i still hook it up? I cant find a Auxilliry or Input mode on the stereo though..the IP-Bus is like $30 bucks.

you'll need the adapter for the 4600. the outputs only go out and not in.

Where can i find the adapter cheap? And how freakin big is it? Do i put it in the back of stereo with the cables or do i have to put it up front somewhere where i can plug/un-plug my iPod?

Pioneer CD-RB10 is what you want. Its $35.00 on crutchfield but you can get a generic model for about 20 on ebay. http//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14932&item=5769095272&rd=1

You plug it in to the back of your head unit and it gives you 2 rca inputs for an aux channel. you then need to buy a Y adapter to change the 2 rca inputs to a headphone input. run this wire wherever you need to in your car. Like Geej86 mentioned you can put it in your center console... or glovebox or wherever. But remember, wherever you put it you'll want to switch tracks probably.

Can you swtich tracks from your iPod, or reciever? Or do you switch tracks from the cable or adapter? Also, whats the difference between this

You have to switch tracks on the ipod itself unless you get an interface like the Denison one or Alpine head unit with ipod thing. The second one you posted allows you to have a cd changer and an aux input. The first will not let you have a cd changer.

Oh, alrighty. So if i just want to hook my iPod up to my stereo, with like no loss of sound quality, and can change tracks from the iPod, i should get the first link? For $30? And you said i could get cheaper on eBay?

slease

25-04-2005 20:13:13

Follow the link I posted.

It seems a little short, could i get a cheap extension or how long is it..?

slease

25-04-2005 20:27:41

you have to get an extension. You can't plug an ipod into rca cables. read my post up above again.

slease

25-04-2005 21:10:30
