well, i've seen it before for other sites, but here is the dilema

1. 60gig photo is coming on Monday 4/25
2. I want to "trade down" to a 30gig and get 100 bucks cash in my pocket, cause I will never use 60gigs + they are thicker.

- Besides selling it on ebay for $450...what are my options? My Walmart/Circuit City/Radio Shack does not have iPod photos...so I'm wondering if there is any other options.

Now it is, I believe Best Buy and such scan for the Serial #'s to make sure they were purchased at their store.

yea, that was what I was thinking...is there any place that I can search by zipcode to find the nearest Apple Store? I don't know of any nearby, but I'd be willing to travel a bit.

It's a link to "Apple Store Locator 1.3" - http//www.macworld.com/news/2002/05/31/locator/index.php

It may be under construction...it wasn't password protected when I first found it.

oh, ok.

So from what I am hearing...Apple Stores are also checking serial numbers when you attempt to take something back...am I correct? Also, don't you have to show some proof (receipt of purchase/gift receipt, etc) before they will make the trade?

As far as I know...Apple implemented the "policy" of checking serial numbers sometime within the few last months. There is a discussion about it around here somewhere...

i traded in a 20 gig at an apple store the other day for a 30 gig photo and a manager originally asked the guy helping me to scan the serial number. i guess the guy didn't really feel like going through w/ the extra step and didn't bother once the manager left us alone. it would suck to have to travel out of your way to an apple store only to be turned down. i would just sell it on ebay. no store will give you cash back anyway if you trade it in.

yep, i think my decision is going to simply be ebay.
