Suggest-a-hack for FiPG Forums!

I'm in a hackery kind of mood, so if any of you have any suggestions for hacks/mods for FreeiPodGuide, feel free to post here, and if I like it, I'll add it.

What the hell does RSS do? Seems kind of pointless...

i dont like the hack you put on there now... it makes the forums look way too crowded!

RSS is used by firefox to make live bookmarks. I'm not sure if other browsers use it.

yea, does look kinda crowded. Maybe u could put the small RSS/NT links that were to the left of every forum's name. that was nicely organized

RSS = really simple syndication... google for 'rss aggregator' - it's basically a protocol for keeping track of frequently updated content like blogs, news sites, and forums.

I'll try something else for the rss links to the forums.

also, chatbox is installed, but nobody's using it...

I did know there was a chat room, but is there anyway it can be hosted on the site here instead of an IRC room? I can't stand those. But perhaps slightly easier suggestion - at least make the links to the chat room more obvious? Hardly anyone here goes to the front page of FiPG. Maybe a new link up there like the Buy Text Ad?

Get a little script going where users can leave notes to themselves about what user is trading them for what site and on what date. Etc.

It gets so confusing having like 10 trades going on one. Who you are suppose to pay, how much, and what not.

I doubt that's on phpbb hacks but it shouldn't be too hard to code yourself )

Notes added, as well as a number of improvements to the admin side of things. Also, check out 'stats' above for some interesting info.

Awesome addition of the RSS feeds.

I use FeedDemon everyday as my single source for news, etc. It is sweeet being able to add FIPGuide as a new channel. You have no idea how much time you have just saved me.

Here's a quick breakdown

You can subscribe to all the posts, or just all the new topics, for all the forums. That link is at the top right of the index page.

You can also subscribe to individual topics (and their replies, of course). That link is at the top of every topic page.

You can also subscribe to each new post or each new topic only in any of the forums. The way to do that is to find the forum ID #
Eg. for off-topic, the link is http//forum.freeipodguide.com/viewforum.php?f=5

So the forum ID is 5

To subscribe to just Off-Topic, then, just do this
http//forum.freeipodguide.com/rss.php?f=5
Or if you want just the new topics, and not every post
http//forum.freeipodguide.com/rss.php?f=5&t=1

This works with any of the forums.

Thanks, everyone. Everything is working, and looking good, as far as I can tell. I also went and upgraded to the latest version of phpBB2 (released a few days ago). So even though I no longer show version information on the footer for security reasons, we're currently running 2.0.14, and I suggest anyone else running phpBB2 to upgrade as well.

I wrote ththe join dates in myself, but that would be a cool mod.

I'm going to remove the last visited hack. That's the one that's been wreaking havoc with the sessions (resulting in posts not being properly marked) as far as I can tell.
