So I'm finally starting to use my new CyberPower...
This thing came with an 80 gb Harddrive, so I figured I'd fill it up with a few good movies and every song in existance.

If you have any popular torrent sites, let me know. I wanna start downloading asap ;)

Well, the tv site above is legal, for one. By law once a tv show is broadcasted and taped once, only [i5f43efd397]once[/i5f43efd397], by anyone anywhere the episode is legally able to be distributed. You can't go and make a profit off of selling dvds or anything though.

Best site ever is piratebay.org. Dont let the fact that its in swedish scare you, they cant get shut down due to swedish laws and have a huge selection, other good ones are torrentspy and torrentreactor

Burning DVD's? PFFFT. More like storing on external drives.

Their invitation system is disabled. You have to wait until some accounts get deleted before you can sign up. But trust me, it is the best porn torrent site in the world. You can find anything that you could possibly be into (assuming it is legal).

So wait, I'm trying to play by the book here. Only TV and Porn downloads are legal, right? I have a lot of stuff in now, the entire season of "The Office", and last night's "The Daily Show". But movies and music aren't legal, right?

Yes, unless you own a copy of the CD/Movie you would download, you don't own the copyright to that piece if media and can't download it legally.

The Supreme Court is about to rule on File-Sharing in general, specifically the gnutella code. Should be a landmark decision.

PodTopia

20-04-2005 20:13:31

Should be. I know users of Internet2 on college campuses got sued for sharing movies. I definitely don't want to do anything illegal. Thanks Dolynea )

Yep, I've read the appellate decision - interesting read 380 f.3d 1154 if you want to look it up...

I read that people were d/ling entire albums in 20 seconds and movies in less than 10 minutes...that's some serious bandwidth.

PsychoAU

I don't think Porn is legal if it was produced by a porn company. it has the same copyrights as movies.

I think that TV shows are also illegal. Yes, you can record it for yourself, but you can't distribute it to anyone else even if you don't make any money. Go back and check the Berne Act to make sure. This is why MGM sued everyone who downloaded Dead Like Me last summer.

I don't think any of it is legal to distribute unless you own the copyright. Recording it for yourself is very different from distribution.

Does anyone wanna be nice and share their account at empornium? )

Admin

20-04-2005 20:43:12

I was under the impression that the act of downloading a TV show for personal viewing was not illegal, but that sharing/distributing it to others is. So if you download it directly from an FTP or website, you're ok, but if you supply it others (which you limustli do by the nature of bittorrent when using it) you are not within the law.

Again, this is just my understanding of it, I could be way off.

PsychoAU

20-04-2005 21:10:15

The person who supplies it on an FTP site or something does not have the rights to do so. Therefore, they are illegally doing so. By you receiving that copy, you are in effect accepting stolen property.

Now, I don't agree with any of this, but that is how it is from a legal viewpoint.

The only people who can decide how the show is distributed is the original rights holder. Anyone else is breaking the law.

That isn't gonna stop me, but it should be clear for all the high school kids who are too afraid to download anything.

Anyone know what to do...i have 3 files the sample file works but its just a short clip how can i get the whole movie to play.

CD_Image_File_CD1 818,710kb BIN file
CD_Image_File_CD1.cue 2kb CUE file
sample 10,719kb Movie File(mpeg)

PsychoAU

21-04-2005 07:58:52

burn the bin and cue with nero or another burning program. or you can mount the image in Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%.

It is an image of the original disc. Basically the entire CD is put into a single file.

or, you can always use Google and finally join us in the 21st century. )

don't you have to load the CUE file into a CD Burning app and click burn?

Use Nero but you don't need to use the automated wizzard thingy that pops up when you start it. Just cancel out of that, then go to File->Burn Image or look around in some of the other menus up top for Burn Image if its not under File. Then you just need to find the cue file in the window that will pop up after you select Burn Image and load/open it and you'll be read to burn.
