I'm moving to the Detroit area in about 3 weeks, and I'd appreciate any advice on where to live. PM me with your AIM screenname, and I'll give you details on what area I'm working in, so you can take commute times into consideration. Thanks!

Well my two biggest job prospects are in Troy or Southfield, and my wife is going to be at grad school in Ypsi..
We were thinking of Canton, but that may be a long commute to Troy. What about Dearborn Heights, near the UM-Dearborn campus?

The Wayne State/ Detroit institue of Arts area are nice. there are alot of nice loft opportunities going up. I would try to stay as close to woodward as you can though...don't go too far in either direction. Downtown is really cleaning up too.
Hit me up if you need anyother suggestions...Currently living downtown downtown...

troy or southfield...you are in advertising correct?...if you are looking for something inbetween...i would say farmington/novi area...even though troy would still be a litte commute for you...696 is not fun during rush hour but i would rather be on that the 75 from dearborn

Born and raised in Metro Detroit, ask away. AIM name TraderStav
Tell me what city you're going to work in, and I can tell you the best city. Doesn't hurt if you tell me about yourself too so that'll help. I know this city better than Kwami! (ha ha)
I live in Auburn Hills and commute to Troy, it's a nice one, so nice I'm considering riding my bike to work.

i would look in the ferndale/toyaloak/pleasant ridge/berkley area. They are all along the woodward corridor. Lots of bars/nightlife. If you are new to the area, this is the place to be. Great place to meet new people.
I was born in sterling heights, and I have lived in Sterling Heights. Macomb, Shelby, Royal Oak, and now ferndale.
Canton is a long ass haul to do each day. Dearborn heights to troy isnt much better. I'm not to big on southfield either. Realestate isnt doing the greatest there. Whats the pricerange for rent/mortgage payements? Look at www.detnews.com They have some good info on the areas regarding housing.

Northville, Plymouth, Novi, Farmington.
Those are more or less midway between Troy and Yipsy. Either way, pretty much anywhere to Troy is a painful commute, since 75 is just one big traffic jam. As are 94 and 696.

I went to Ike, class of '98. That name sounds familiar, I probably saw her around the school way back when, and who knows, she may have been in one of my classes. Hate to use the cliche, but... small world wink
