i dont really know to much in depth about hardware...but im planning on upgrading my laptop hard drive...its been 3 years and its slowing down big time and the clicks, churps, and dings are louder and sounds bad...ive already factory refreshed the comp...but nothing...

my current hard drive is 60gb 4700rpm ata-5 interface...and i was wondering if i would be able to install a ata-6 version in...i dont know much about ata or ultra ata ide to much or its compatibilty...the newer one i was looking into is 60gb 5400rpm...but ata-6 interface...will it work? i figure the worst could happen is bios problems...some light on this topic would be appreaciated

ATA-5 is simply the older, slower transfer speeds on drives while ATA-6 is the newer. ATA-5 data transfer rates tops out at 66MBps while -6 tops our at 100MBps although numbers like that typically aren't ever seen on drives. I seriously doubt you'd have any issues with the drive new drive, but you wouldn't see some of the high-transfer speed burst benefits of the newer drive by using the older ATA controller. However, as long as you aren't banking on the lappie being your teh hardc0re hax0r gam0r system, you should be alright.
