I am thinking about starting DVRs4free up again. I already completed an offer and got a couple yellows on my account, but abandoned it sometime last year. Anyways, I just had a question to all you tivo experts out there. If i get the tivo, can I just hook it up to my tv ? I know there is a tivo subscription, but I think my friend had a tivo, but he didnt have a subscription. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

You need to either pay a monthly subscription fee to TIVO or purchase a lifetime subscription fee.

Do I have to have direct tv or any certain cable package to do so?

if you're doing DVRs, get the $275 paypal and buy a tive for $199

I have basic cable with mine. If you don't have a cable box the setup process is much easier. If you do, then you have to worry about whether or not the cable box will connect to the tivo or having to connect an IR interface between the two.

DirectTV users can get Tivo with a special DirectTivo box that costs only 5.00 a month. The boxes off of DVRs4free aren't the ones you want to use with DirectTV.

Also, go for the paypal option because you can get a tivo box for cheaper after the rebate and all you'll probably need is the 40hour one.
